🦥 CGC TEST 2: Sitting Politely for Petting 🌿
This one’s all about letting your dog know that friendly touches aren’t a threat. A stranger gives a polite pat, and your dog? Cool as a cucumber. 🥒

✨ THE TEST:
The evaluator approaches and pets your dog on the head and body while they sit by your side.
🐾 Standing is okay.
🐾 Wiggling is okay.
🐾 Pulling away, growling, or shrinking back? Not okay.
You can talk to your dog during the whole thing—encouragement is encouraged!

💡 TRAIN it:

1. Desensitize Slowly: Teach your dog to accept touch from YOU first—head, neck, shoulders, back. Pair it with treats.

2. Add Helpers: Bring in friends or family to mimic the greeting and petting. Keep sessions short and always positive.

3. Position Practice: Cue a sit at your side before the person greets. Reward calm behavior.

4. Expect Movement: If your dog stands up but doesn’t move forward or react, that’s fine! Focus on comfort, not statues. This is more about your dog responding to your cues and staying under control than about a sit stay.

🧠 TRUST TIP:

Your dog’s confidence comes from your calm leadership. Don't get nervous or embarrassed, no matter what happens. Let your dog know you’ve got this, and they’ll follow your lead. 💚

🌿 Bonus Sloth Wisdom:
"Stay calm, stay kind—let trust grow one gentle touch at a time." When practicing, listen to your dog's cues when they are uncomfortable so you can adjust! Never let someone pet your dog that YOU don't trust yourself. 🦥💚

🦥 CGC TEST 1: Accepting a Friendly Stranger – Rules

Let’s break it down 🌿

The Canine Good Citizen exercises are pass or fail. A good citizen canine trusts you to handle the human stuff. That’s what this test is about. They must let you handle the human to human interaction without interfering.

👇 Here's how the evaluator sets the scene:
👋 The evaluator approaches you and greets you while ignoring your dog.
🤝 You and the evaluator pretend to shake hands.
🐾 Your dog just needs to stay calm by your side—standing, sitting, or lying down is all fine acceptable.

✅ PASS if your dog:

Remains calm and focused

Shows controlled interest

Doesn’t bark, shy away, or pull

❌ FAIL if your dog:

Jumps, growls, lunges, or barks

Hides behind you or won’t stay beside you

Strains on the leash or needs correction

It’s not about perfection—it’s about predictability and polite presence.

🌱 TRAIN it. TRUST it.
Build up slowly. Use familiar people to practice “walk up and greet” games in a quiet environment before adding in strangers and distractions.

I teach my students the more advanced "Good Greeting" so if you've worked with me on that, your pup should have no problem with this one!

🌿 CGC TEST 1: Accepting a Friendly Stranger 🌿
The first step to my more advanced "good greeting" is the accepting a friendly stranger test.
Practice Sloth-style calm and confidence built on trust. 🦥💚
This test checks if your dog can stay relaxed and polite while someone greets you—not them. A friendly hello, a pretend handshake, and your dog sits chill? That’s it! You can attain this goal. 🐾
Test number one on your way to
⭐👤Canine Good Citizen 👤⭐
TRAIN it:

Start Small: Practice with a familiar person calmly walking up and greeting you. Reward your dog for staying seated or neutral.

Ignore the Dog: Teach helpers to ignore your dog—no eye contact, no baby voice! Let your dog see that humans can approach you without interacting with them.

Practice in Calm Places First: Try it in your living room, then move to the porch, a quiet sidewalk, and slowly to busier spaces.

Cue Calm Behavior: Use a cue like "stay" or “watch me” as the person approaches. Reward for stillness and focus.

Read the Room: If your dog gets wiggly, pause training and reset. Sloth-level patience is key.

✨ TRUST BASED TIP: Confidence blooms when your dog knows you are in charge of social situations. Protect their space and slowly introduce new people. Let calm be contagious. 🫶

🦥 Bonus Sloth Wisdom: Your dog doesn’t need to love strangers—just trust you enough to keep them safe while they tolerate polite company.

🛏➡️🌱 DIY Chicken-Proof Grass Grate
Upcycle that old bed frame into something eggstraordinary! 🐔✨

Tired of chickens scratching up your freshly seeded yard? Protect your oats or grass seed with this simple trick using:
✔️ An old bed frame
✔️ Chicken wire
✔️ Oat seeds + patience

Why oats?
🌾 Oat grass is rich in vitamins A & K, minerals, and chlorophyll.
💚 Great for digestion, egg health, and bright yellow yolks.
🍃 Chickens love grazing on it—and this keeps it safe while it grows!
🪨 It'll grow anywhere - even a rock!

🔧 1. Strip the frame
🐓 2. Wrap in wire
🌱 3. Plant your oats
🛡 4. Cover to protect
☀️ 5. Let the sun and water do their thing!

Once grown, lift the grate and let your flock feast (or rotate it for another patch!). Even lazier version? Let them eat the pieces that come through the chicken wire and you don't have to move it.

Tag a chicken keeper who needs this clever, cluck-worthy idea 🐣💚
