Remember Pennywise?

This tiny 5-week-old kitten was found trapped in a storm drain during a storm by Officer Henderson and brought to Windcrest Animal Control. Covered in dirt and fleas, you couldn’t even tell what color his fur was. He was barely moving, struggling to breathe, and so cold that when ACO Foley rushed him to the veterinarian, the doctor couldn’t even get a temperature reading.

But Pennywise wasn’t ready to give up.

This little fighter pushed through. Within just a few days, he began recovering and was able to eat through syringe feeding. Once he was cleaned up and feeling better, we finally got to see the real Pennywise—a beautiful tabby with distinctive markings around his eyes and a personality just as adorable as his looks.

Pennywise quickly won over everyone he met. His way of saying “thank you” was climbing onto your shoulder, holding onto your face, and giving sweet little kisses.

Now, at 7 weeks old, Pennywise has found exactly what he deserved—a loving home. Through our Foster-to-Adopt Program, he was welcomed by a wonderful family right here in Windcrest.

Today, Pennywise has a new name: Skippyjon Jones.

We couldn’t be happier for this resilient little survivor. From a cold storm drain to a warm, loving home, his journey is a reminder of why we do what we do.

In just the past few weeks, we've responded to three animals suffering because of glue traps and each rescue was a heartbreaking reminder of why these devices need to go. This baby possum was found stuck in a glue trap with its mother and sibling by his side.

Glue traps don't discriminate. They're marketed for insects, mice, and rats, but they catch whatever wanders across them: songbirds, snakes, lizards, baby wildlife, and even pets. Animals that get stuck don't die quickly. They panic. They pull. They can tear off feathers, scales, or skin trying to escape. Some are still alive, exhausted and terrified, when they're found hours or days later.

There are so many better options:
✅ Live/humane traps
✅ Seal entry points (the most effective long-term fix)
✅ Call a pest control professional who uses humane methods

If you find a wild animal stuck in a glue trap, don't pull, as you can make injuries worse. Call us at 281-275-2364 or reach out to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator right away.

Don't let the heat harm them! If you can't swap it frequently during a summer heatwave, consider filling the feeder with less nectar so nothing goes to waste. How often are you changing yours right now?

A small summer test that could save your dog's paws>>>

A 75-degree day at a 7 a.m. walk is comfortable. The same walk at 11 a.m. on hot pavement is dangerous — even on days that don't feel that hot to you.

The seven-second test:
Press the back of your hand against the sidewalk. If you can't hold it there for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

If you're looking for the perfect family dog, Neiko is your girl!

This beautiful 3-year-old female absolutely adores children and gets along wonderfully with other animals. She has never met a stranger and loves making new friends, whether they have two legs or four.

Don't have kids or other pets? That's okay! Neiko takes her role as a passenger princess very seriously. She loves riding shotgun and spending quality time with her favorite human. Whether it's a trip to the park, a coffee run, or just cruising around town, Neiko is happy as long as she's by your side.

She is sweet, loving, and ready to become someone's loyal companion.

🏡 If you're not ready to adopt, please consider fostering Neiko. A foster home can help her get out of the kennel and show everyone just how amazing she truly is.

As temperatures continue to rise, please remember that leaving a pet in a parked vehicle can be life-threatening—even for just a few minutes. ☀️🚗

Did you know?
🌡️ On an 85°F day, the inside of a vehicle can reach over 100°F in just 10 minutes.
🌡️ Cracking the windows does little to reduce the temperature inside.
🌡️ Pets can quickly suffer from heatstroke, which can cause organ failure and death.

Signs of heatstroke include:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Bright red gums
🐾 Weakness or stumbling
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Collapse

If your pet appears overheated:
✅ Move them to a cool, shaded area.
✅ Offer small amounts of cool water.
✅ Wet their paws and body with cool (not ice-cold) water.
✅ Seek veterinary care immediately.

The safest choice is simple: If you're not comfortable sitting in a parked car, neither is your pet.

Please leave your pets at home where they can stay safe and cool this summer.
