Ginger is a 17 year old Schnauzer, and she is an absolute sweetheart.

At 17, she's still running, still playing, still full of personality. She dances on her back legs. She's funny. She's precious. Age has not slowed this girl down one bit, and grooming her is genuinely one of the highlights of my week.

This is what stress free grooming for a senior pup looks like 💓

At Happy Tails, grooming is never just about the haircut.

It's stopping mid-groom to play with a favorite toy. It's a bully stick break when someone needs it. It's belly rubs whenever they're wanted, not just when there's time. Every dog gets grooming built around them, not the other way around.

Tate, Maple, Lani, and Koah know exactly what I'm talking about! 😍

Meet Walden, a Goberian, which is a husky and golden retriever mix, and let me tell you, that combination makes for one wild coat.

This was a serious deshedding job, the kind that really matters here in Wilmington, especially with how hot September still gets. All that undercoat trapped against his skin in this heat is no joke, and he feels like a completely different dog once it's out.

He's not always quiet about the process (definitely inherited that husky vocal streak), but he's is so much fun, and he leaves happy, fresh and clean!

Big glow up. Big relief in this heat 🐾

I've been grooming Charli for five years now, and every time she comes in, she's an absolute joy.

Her mom told me she starts whining with excitement the second they turn the corner toward Happy Tails. Five years in, and she still gets that excited to see me, which honestly, I'm just as excited to see her too.

She loves her belly rubs. She loves to play. And somewhere along the way, five years of showing up for her turned into this kind of trust.

That's the whole goal here 💜

Beans is a Sheepadoodle, which might honestly be one of the most gorgeous coat combinations out there, and she's got some food allergies that mean treats are off the table for her. Toys only around here.

Mid-groom, we took a little break together, up on the bed, looking out the window, just watching the world go by for a while. Koah supervised, obviously, he takes his job very seriously. 🐶

Sometimes the best part of a groom is just pausing to let a dog be a dog for a minute 🌟

This was Benji's very first groom with us, and just look at that face.

He's one of those dogs who makes your whole day better just by walking in the door. Genuinely, unapologetically happy. He spent most of his visit playing with toys between sections, taking breaks to just be a joyful little guy (a Pooschon, so lots of poodle coat and lots of personality).

Welcome to the Happy Tails family, Benji 💙

Happy Tails, happy tongues 👅

There's nothing quite like a dog who is just thrilled to be here. These are some of my favorite kinds of photos, the ones where you can just tell the dog is having the best day.

Frannie, Yogi, Angel, and Prince Benjamin, living their best lives 💙

Is your dog happy to come back to the groomer?

That's honestly one of the biggest things I watch for. A dog who won't take a treat they normally love, who tenses up at the door, or who won't settle no matter what you try, isn't being difficult. They're telling you they're not comfortable yet.

If that's where your dog is right now, that's okay. My goal with every anxious dog isn't to force it, it's to make them a little more comfortable, a little more excited, each time they come back. Trust builds visit by visit, not all at once.

That's the whole philosophy behind Happy Tails. One dog at a time, no rushing, no cages. Just time to get there 🐶

Spirit is a Newfoundland Poodle mix with one seriously specialty coat, and this transformation is a big one.

He's been with Happy Tails about a year now, and he's come to love his grooming days, especially the toys waiting for him after the bath and the belly rubs in between. That little mohawk on his head stays no matter what, it's just part of who he is.

Big dog, big personality, big glow up 🐾

I don't say this enough, so I'm saying it now. I am so grateful for every single one of you!

Happy Tails has grown so much, and none of it happens without the clients who trust me with their dogs, week after week, groom after groom. Every wagging tail, every dog who trots in happy now instead of nervous, that's because of you.

A few of the amazing pups who came through recently: Yoda, Lily, Marley, Kit, and Brody!

Thank you for letting me do what I love! 😍
