Our dogs are a reflection of our standard. 🐕🔥

At Hunter Canine Dog Training, we don’t just train client dogs all day and call it quits.

Before work. After work. On our breaks. We’re training our own dogs too.

Every personal dog on our team is working toward a tangible goal. PSA, explosives or narcotics detection, service dog work, and other real world applications.

Of course, our dogs are expected to have the fundamentals. Obedience, recall, neutrality, settling, reliability, and the ability to function appropriately in everyday life.

But we take it further.

We train with PURPOSE. We set goals. We test our training. We identify weaknesses. We learn. And we keep raising the standard.

Some of the dogs you see us working right now are dogs we’re developing and learning with as we prepare for future dogs and even bigger goals in competitive and working dog training.

One thing I’m huge on with my trainers is accountability with our own dogs.

As trainers, we should be willing to put our own work to the test. Our dogs give us an opportunity to sharpen our timing, mechanics, problem solving, handling, and understanding of behavior without a client paying us to learn.

This goes beyond tricks.

It goes beyond a Canine Good Citizen certificate.

We want to pursue real goals with measurable outcomes and continually become more capable dog trainers.

Because this isn’t something we only do when we clock in.

We genuinely love training dogs.

We spend all day developing our clients’ dogs, and then we go home and keep developing our own.

That’s the culture we’re building at Hunter Canine. 🐾

Train. Learn. Test. Improve. Repeat.

Feeding your dog from a bowl is certainly convenient, but it cuts out opportunities to work on training and build your relationship with your dog. Next time you feed a meal, try making it productive!

If you’ve ever come into our facility during day camp hours, you’ve probably seen dogs hanging out on tethers unbothered by what’s happening around them. That doesn’t come naturally. Neutrality is trained. Settling is trained. An off-switch is trained.

A dog who can calmly hang out while life happens around them is easier to live with, easier to take places, and better equipped to handle the real world.

Our Day Camp dogs don’t just train inside the facility - we take them on field trips with us to work through new environments, distractions, sights, and sounds. Then, in our free alumni group class, we take those same skills out in the world, where dogs and their owners get to practice together and build a community.

Stress inoculation doesn’t mean overwhelming your dog. It means introducing manageable challenges that your dog can successfully work through with appropriate support. The goal isn’t to create stress or learned helplessness, it’s to create dogs that can confidently navigate discomfort when life inevitably presents it.
