I don't say this enough, but I want you guys to know how grateful I am.
When I started Hunter Canine, I just wanted to help families who were struggling with their dogs. The dog that pulls so hard you dread every walk. The dog that can't be around company. The dog that families are scared they might have to give up. I've sat across from so many of you on your hardest days with your dog, and getting to see those same dogs now living calm, happy lives with their families is the reason I do this.
135 of you took the time to leave us a Google review. I read every single one. Some of them honestly get me choked up. Every one of those reviews is how another family who is at the end of their rope finds us and gets the help they need. So your support doesn't just help our business. It helps the next dog and the next family. It changes their life.

🎓 DAY CAMP | Building the Foundation

Our Day Camp is a hands-on training program designed for dogs who are actively learning and developing new skills. From obedience and impulse control to neutrality, confidence, and real-world manners, our trainers focus on building reliable behaviors through structured, individualized training sessions.

🐾 ALUMNI CLUB | Maintaining the Standard

Graduation doesn’t mean the structure stops! Our Alumni Club is designed exclusively for dogs who have already completed one of our training programs. Think structured daycare, not traditional doggy daycare. Alumni enjoy supervised socialization, enrichment, exercise, and opportunities to practice the skills they’ve already learned.

The biggest difference? Day Camp focuses on teaching and developing skills, while Alumni Club focuses on maintaining those skills in a fun, structured environment.

Both programs prioritize fulfillment, clear expectations, and setting dogs up for success — whether they’re just getting started or already part of the alumni family! 🐕

A solid place command starts with clear expectations.

Here are 3 simple tips to help build a more reliable place command:

1️⃣ Reward in position. Deliver rewards while your dog is still on place, not after they’ve stepped off. We want to reinforce the behavior we’re actually asking for!

2️⃣ Keep your criteria consistent. Decide what counts as place and stick to it. If you expect all four paws on the bed, don’t reward two paws on and two paws off. Consistency makes expectations easier for your dog to understand.

3️⃣ Don’t reward breaking position. If your dog steps off before being released, you can use a lure to guide them back into position, but don’t reward them for returning. Otherwise, you risk creating a pattern where your dog learns to break place just to earn another treat.

The goal isn’t just getting your dog onto place, it’s teaching them to stay there until released.

Meet Lily! 🐾

Nail trims might not seem like a big deal, but for a dog Lily’s size, they’re especially important!

As a Mastiff, Lily carries a significant amount of weight on her paws. When nails become overgrown, they can interfere with normal paw placement, alter how weight is distributed, and put unnecessary stress on the toes and joints. For giant breeds, maintaining proper nail length is an important part of keeping them comfortable and moving well.

But nail care shouldn’t have to be a battle!

We’re working on building Lily’s comfort and confidence with nail trims by using food to create positive associations with having her paws handled and nails clipped. By breaking the process into manageable steps and rewarding her cooperation, we’re teaching Lily that nail trims are nothing to worry about.

Grooming and cooperative care are just as much a part of training as obedience. A dog who feels comfortable participating in routine care is a win for everyone involved!

Meet Dallas and Nero! 🐾

Both of these boys came to Day Camp struggling with severe leash reactivity. Now, they’re making incredible progress with neutrality around other dogs.

A big part of that progress? Finding the right outlets for each dog.

For Nero, that’s tug. For Dallas, it’s fetch.

Fulfilling a dog’s individual needs is an often overlooked piece of behavior modification. When dogs have appropriate outlets for their drives, we can use that motivation to build engagement, improve emotional regulation, and work toward more neutral responses to their environment.

Of course, fulfillment alone doesn’t fix reactivity, but paired with structured training, clear expectations, and consistency, it can make a world of difference.

Same goal, different dogs, different approaches. That’s what individualized training is all about.
