Jan is a sweet, sensitive girl who is learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. Through no fault of her own, life wasn’t always kind to Jan, and she came to foster care frightened and unsure of nearly everything around her. While she has made wonderful progress in her foster home, she is still a very timid young dog who needs a patient, gentle adopter willing to let her move at her own pace.
Beneath her cautious exterior is a gentle soul who wants to connect. Once Jan feels safe, she forms strong bonds and shows her affectionate, playful side. She gains confidence from the resident dog in her foster home, and would benefit from having a calm, well-adjusted canine companion in her forever home.
Jan is still learning many of the basics of being a family pet, including potty training and crate training, and feeling comfortable when left alone. She may cry or howl in her signature husky voice when crated or left alone, and her future family should be prepared to continue helping her build independence while understanding this will take time and practice.
Because she can become overwhelmed by loud noises, sudden movements, and unfamiliar situations, she would do best in a quieter home with older, respectful children. Jan’s instinct is to run when feeling uncertain or overwhelmed, and she’s proven to be a clever and determined pup, so careful supervision and secure doors and fences are a must as she adjusts to new surroundings.
Jan may not be the dog who runs up to greet strangers or settles in overnight, but for someone willing to give her the time, patience, and understanding she deserves, the reward will be watching her blossom into a confident and beloved companion.
