Refuge not Rescue! I can’t wait for the surgeries to begin. TNR Saves Lives! 😻
Hello cat lovers! 😻 Eduard, the camera-shy other feral has a much needed PSA!!
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
I'm writing to you today to clear up a common question we've been getting a lot of recently.
We are named "Rugby's Refuge" for Rugby- the original rescue boy who's life was completely turned around for the good due to a very big heart and a lot of veterinary medicine. Named in his honor because we want to make this happen for so many more kitties.
And "Refuge" because a refuge is literally "a safe place". We want to be the place where the terrified ferals that may never be touched by human hands again, to have the ultimate spa day of their lives. They will be neutered, combed (or shaved if necessary), ears cleaned, nails trimmed, and vaccinated for all those sneaky viruses that can wreak havoc in a matter of days.
It's a safe place because every single cat that comes through our door will be treated with the care and love that we share for all of our feline friends. No matter what we have going on, all the cats will get a thorough physical checking for wounds, fleas, ear mites, kinked tails, rams horns, BB's (we have found a few in the past, unfortunately), tapeworms, fractured teeth/dental disease, corneal ulcers, entropion, etc. , etc. One notice of something that maybe the caretaker couldn't see because the cat is untouchable or something very subtle because we all know cats are great at hiding things, can actually change their life around. And we can guarantee we will always take the time to find those *little* things that could make a huge difference.
It's a safe place because it's strictly cats only. Even the friendliest house cat can turn back to feral roots when there's a big unknown dog barking obnoxiously in the same room. Cats are excellent predators but they are also prey. If they smell, hear, or see a predator to them, the fear will take over and then it's usually not a great experience for anyone.
And last, it's a safe place because our team is dedicated wholeheartedly to providing the best care and love for these wonderful creatures. With decades of cat specific experience and the most up to date knowledge of medicine, we give our heart and souls to the cats. Always have, always will. I'm pretty sure I sold my soul to the cats a very very long time ago anyway. Cut me open, I bleed fur and whiskers. 😅
✍️✍️✍️BUT, even though we will take the utmost care of the cats that come to us for surgery, we cannot take any cats for rescue at this time. There are so many wonderful rescues that will take your friendly strays out there and find them homes, but that's not us. We understand there are a TON of homeless cats out there, but we are doing our part to prevent more overpopulation with the spay and neuter surgeries.
We have gotten the question many times if *we take cats*- the short answer is No. And the long answer is Nooooooooooo. But no is no. And for the people in the back- We will NOT take your stray you just found under a car, or the mom on your porch that just had 6 kittens. We WILL however, spay and neuter them and give them the healthcare they need. But you must pick them up at the end of the day. 😸
Also, just a PSA- We will have cameras installed inside and outside of the building. Just to keep an eye out for any strays (and we mean ANY) that may wander onto the property. Then we will trap and neuter them appropriately. 😁
So to circle back, we are "Rugby's Refuge"- a safe place to bring your cats for surgery and care, then they are returned to you at the end of the day.
We are NOT "Rugby's Rescue"- a place that does not exist anywhere close to us. We have all rescued our share of cats (and then some), and have the fur covered scrubs we bring TO work to prove it 😉
