Well, our day at Islands of Adventure took an unexpected detour. 😂🐦
My friend spotted this poor little pigeon who was in serious trouble. Human hair had become completely wrapped around his foot and toes and had been there long enough that it was actually embedded into the tissue, causing severe swelling and damage.
So naturally, Erica caught him.
We sat there carefully removing and debriding as much of the hair and damaged tissue as we could by hand, then thoroughly washed and cleaned the foot. He still has a long way to go, but fortunately for him, he happened to cross paths with Erica, so instead of being left to suffer, little dude is now headed to rehab. ❤️🐦⬛
Meanwhile, someone with us was thoroughly disgusted that we were touching a pigeon and kept making comments about how gross it was.
And I have to say… I will never understand that mentality.
You don't have to love pigeons. You don't have to pick one up. You don't even have to understand why someone else would stop their day to help one.
But when a living creature is suffering right in front of you and someone is willing and able to help it, kindness costs you absolutely nothing.
Being a common animal doesn't make its pain less real. Being a pigeon doesn't make it disposable. And compassion shouldn't only apply to animals we think are cute, valuable, or worthy.
So today's Islands of Adventure attraction was apparently Pigeon ER. 😆
10/10 would interrupt our theme-park day to do it again. ❤️
