This is Rose! 🌹
She is a Rhode Island Red, one of the most common chicken breeds.
We got her with our first group of chickens, along with 6 other Rhode Island Reds.
(& Pearl if you remember her from our first Chicken of the Week!)

Happy Monday! β˜€οΈ
Fun fact: Chickens love to take dust/sand baths.
- Dust/sand baths are beneficial because they dry out and smother any parasites that may be underneath a chicken's feathers.
- A layer of dust/sand can help keep chickens cool in hot temperatures, similar to a pig rolling in mud!
- They use the sand/dirt to keep their feathers clean and remove dead skin cells.
- Chickens enjoy the act of dustbathing, it is a stimulating and enriching natural behavior!
Usually you need to have a dust bath made for them, but where we live there is a lot more sand than dirt so they create their own!

Happy Friday! β˜€οΈ
One of our favorite additions to our chicken pen is this chick-nic table!
Aside from learning proper table manners, this is just a fun way of feeding them some extra nutrients. πŸ˜†

Happy Monday everyone! β˜€οΈ
Easter Eggers are a special kind of chicken, so here are a few fun facts!

- Easter Eggers are named for their ability to lay eggs in a variety of colors, including blue, pink, green, sage, and yellow.
- Easter Eggers can lay around 280 large eggs per year, and the color of the eggs one chicken lays will stay the same color throughout her lifetime.
- Easter Eggers can have a variety of feather patterns and colors. They also have poofy cheeks and beards, and no tail feathers!

πŸ“ Chicken of the Week! πŸ“
This is Pearl! 🀍
She was in the first group of chickens we got so we thought it was fitting that she is our very first chicken of the week!
She was the runt of the group when we got her, we didn't think she was going to make it since she was so small and isolated.
BUT as you can see, she is healthy, happy and currently the biggest hen we have (& one of the sweetest)!
