It’s officially foxtail season, and unfortunately, we have to look at the tough reality of these weeds to truly understand how dangerous they are. 🌾🐕
Foxtails aren’t just annoying burrs that stick to your dog’s coat, they are shaped like biological drills. Once they pierce the skin, catch in an ear canal, or get stuck between toes, they will continue to burrow deeper into the tissue, causing severe infections, pain, and internal damage. They cannot back out on their own.

How to protect your pup right now:
Stay on the path: Avoid letting your dog run through dry, golden, tall brush.
Keep paws trimmed: Keeping the hair between the toes and pads short makes it much harder for foxtails to hitch a ride undetected.
Do a hands-on check: Feel through their fur, deep between their toes, and around their ears after every single outdoor adventure.
If you find a loose foxtail in the fur, brush or pluck it out immediately. But if you see a bump, a draining wound, or suspect one is already embedded under the skin or in an ear, do not wait, call your vet right away.
