Today, we bid farewell to one of the best of them all, K9 Tommy 💔. Canine Handler Lee Culley and Tommy have consistently served as the informal leaders of our team, setting the benchmark for what it means to be a Canine Search Team. K9 Tommy exemplified the qualities of a disaster dog by deploying multiple times and always ready to embark on missions to find those in need. We were all fortunate to have been a part of his life, witnessing his dedication to his work and his exceptional nature as a dog. Observing Tommy during training and witnessing his passion for searching was truly inspiring. We affectionately referred to him as the pointy ear lab. His absence will be deeply felt by all of us at Utah Task Force 1 While the news is heartbreaking, his impact on our team will forever be etched in our memories. Thank you, K9 Tommy, for your hard work. And thank you, Lee, for being a remarkable teammate.

Today we recognize a few of our recently retired canine co workers for all their efforts and dedication. The experience, hard work, and knowledge between this group of teammates is truly inspiring. Thank you guys for everything, thank you for being there for those in time of need and thank you for being willing to answer the call.

It’s heartbreaking to announce the passing of our sweet boy, K9 Cole. Cole was a model Search Dog. He brightened everyone on our team and set a standard for how we all want our dogs to work. He had multiple deployments. Beyond being a Search Dog, he was our handler’s partner, family, and a core part of our team . Cole was special, sweet, and just a damn good dog. Writing a post about all he’s achieved wouldn’t come close to the impact he’s had on everyone he ever let pet him. This is our team’s page, but as I sit here trying to write something professional and meaningful, I realize there isn’t one. Time with these dogs is precious, and you can’t imagine what that dreadful day will be like. Saying your goodbyes and giving those last pets is heartbreaking. Cole will be missed, his handler Roxanne gave him an amazing life and loved him dearly.
