We've all heard "it takes a village to raise a child," and I'm here to say that it takes a village to raise a PUPPY too.

I'm not saying puppies are the same as human children, but they ARE complex social animals capable of forming deep emotional bonds with their humans.

When you stop and think about it, it’s magical and crazy that you can bring home a baby from a completely different species and live alongside them.

Magical because you can literally become best friends and experience a soul connection with an animal.

And crazy because you are adding a baby creature with needle-sharp teeth and no understanding of human language to your home. Which can feel a little bit like exploding your life.

Puppies are a LOT. They’re a lot of work. They take a lot of energy and emotion.

If you have a puppy, you might be feeling overwhelmed.
Frustrated.
Unsure.
Confused.
Sleep-deprived.
Upset.
Even a little depressed.

Sure, a puppy is a ton of fun and so adorable, but they’re also just... a lot. They’re a baby animal that’s completely dependent on you for everything.

If you are feeling like the puppy has taken over your life a bit (or a lot), you’re not alone.

That’s why I’m here. I would love to support you as part of your puppy-raising village.

I can help you feel more confident in raising your pup. More sure of what you're doing.

I can help you gain some control over your routine and schedule with your puppy, so you can get stuff done. Because as much as you love your puppy, they’re not your only responsibility.

I can help you move toward that magical, harmonious bond you envisioned when you decided to get a puppy.

So while puppies ARE a lot of work, you don’t need to go it alone.

My puppy program is designed to help reduce your frustration and stress so you can actually enjoy your new puppy.

Learn how to raise a puppy who can be a part of your active life, while also maintaining your sanity and health (physical and mental).

Stop struggling alone, and get the support you need. Because, as I may have mentioned, puppies are a LOT, y’all!

If you’re interested in learning more about my puppy training program, send me a message!

Did you know that puppies go through a teenage stage just like human children do?

Yep, before your pup becomes an adult dog, they go through a period of adolescence, starting around 6 months of age and lasting until 18 to 24 months (sometimes even longer).

And this is a major reason why starting puppy training as early as possible - ideally before 3 months of age - is so important.

Let me explain...

It's common for people to experience the following issues during canine adolescence:

πŸ”Ή Feeling like your pup is ignoring you or blowing you off
πŸ”Ή Increased independence
πŸ”Ή "He knows what I'm asking, but is just being stubborn"
πŸ”Ή New unwanted behaviors like barking or counter surfing
πŸ”Ή Re-emergence of behaviors you thought they grew out of like chewing
πŸ”Ή More energy. Sometimes a lot more.
πŸ”Ή Easily distracted. Everything is more interesting than you.

Teenage pups can be hard.

In fact, the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters and rescues are in the adolescent developmental stage.

So what does this have to do with puppy training?

When you begin training and socializing your puppy from a young age (2 or 3 months), you create a strong foundation and a positive relationship that will make the challenging teenage stage much easier for both you and your dog.

If you wait until your dog hits adolescence to start training, it's a little bit like trying to build a shelter once the storm has already started...not impossible, but certainly much harder.

Early training gives you and your pup the tools you need to navigate your pup's teenage phase, so you come out the other end with an adult dog who can be an enjoyable part of your active life.

Puppy training can go a long way toward reducing feelings of frustration and overwhelm that can come with adolescence, thanks to that strong foundation.

When you start training early, you're more likely to feel confident in handling the challenges that may arise when your dog is a teen.

This is why I only accept puppies under 5 months old into my πŸ—» Peak Puppy Potential Program πŸ—»

Because I want to help puppy people have the best possible start to life with their new companion.

So that by the time the teenage phase rolls around, you have the skills and tools needed to guide your dog through it.

And so you aren't stuck outside in the pouring rain that doggy adolescence can sometimes be without a comfortable shelter for you and your best canine friend.

Puppy training is an investment into the future you envision with your dog.

Are you getting a puppy this winter?

If you are, there's something ✨ super important ✨ that you need to know!

There's a common mistake that can happen when people get puppies in winter and it's waiting for better weather before socializing your puppy.

Now, I COMPLETELY understand wanting to hold off until it's not freezing and icy and snowy to get your puppy out and about in the big wide world.

(Trust me, I'm from Southern California, and am not built for these Midwest winters. I get it, it sucks.)

BUT, here's the thing:

⌚Socializing your puppy is time sensitive.

The critical window for socialization closes around 16 weeks of age.

When puppies aren't adequately and appropriately socialized before this age, it can lead to behavior issues like fearfulness, reactivity, and overexcitement.

These issues can make your life frustrating and hard.

If you wait for weather to warm up, you've missed out on the prime time to socialize your puppy.

Trying to socialize your puppy when they are older just won't be as effective, unfortunately.

Another common mistake when it comes to socialization is limiting it to just meeting people and other dogs.

Your puppy meeting your guests and friends' dogs might be great, so long as your puppy is having a good experience, but it's not enough.

Socialization isn't just about people and dogs, it's about all the

sights

sounds

surfaces

experiences

environments

your puppy will be exposed to as an adult dog.

It's about thinking ahead into your dog's future to the sorts of things you want to do together, and considering all the things they might encounter.

By giving your puppy positive exposure to these things, you help prepare them for life.

You take the novelty and scariness out of the big wide world, so your puppy can be a confident, well-adjusted sidekick for all your fun, active adventures together.

So even though winter is coming πŸ₯Ά and even though it can be hard to muster up the motivation to leave the house, your puppy NEEDS socialization.

Don't put it off!

Socialization, when done right, can have a lasting positive impact on your dog's behavior and personality.

It's simply too important to wait until spring!

And the good news is that there are lots of ways you can socialize your puppy in winter without being completely miserable and without your fingers falling off.

When you enroll in my Peak Puppy Potential Program I coach you on how to socialize your puppy, with winter-friendly options tailored to your unique puppy's personality, lifestyle, and goals.

This helps you bring out the absolute best in your puppy, so that your puppy is both a pleasant housemate and awesome adventure buddy.

"What's the best age to start training my puppy?"

I'm routinely asked this question by people with new puppies.

And the answer is:

✨As soon as they come home ✨

Here's why...

Puppies are little sponges 🧽 that are ready to learn. In fact, 8 to 16 weeks of age is the prime time for puppies to be learning good habits that help set you up for long-term harmony and happiness with your puppy.

🧠 Research shows that the way a puppy's brain develops makes early learning and experiences so important to their behavior and temperament as they grow up.

If you postpone training until your puppy is older, you're missing out on the best time to establish good routines and teach them important skills that will make life together more enjoyable.

I often hear from my clients who start with me when their puppy is 4 or 5 months old that they wish they had joined my puppy program sooner.

When you enroll your puppy in my Peak Puppy Potential program

πŸ”ΉYou prevent unwanted behavior before it becomes a habit

πŸ”ΉYou save yourself a lot of frustration and overwhelm

πŸ”ΉYou avoid making mistakes that might bite you in the butt as your puppy matures

πŸ”ΉYou feel confident in raising a puppy who can be part of a fun, active life

πŸ”ΉYou know how to handle puppy behavior like nipping, chewing, jumping and biting

πŸ”ΉYou learn how to prepare your puppy for all your future adventures, so they can add joy and not stress

If you're interested in learning more about how my puppy program can help you and your puppy, send me a message!

πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« Do you have a new puppy and feel like they've taken over your life?

πŸ₯΄ Is it hard to get stuff done during the day because you're overwhelmed with caring for your new pup?

πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ Are you frustrated because as soon as you sit down to do some work, or start washing dishes, your puppy is biting at your feet or peeing on the rug?

πŸ’£ Does it kind of feel like you set a bomb off in your life and sometimes you wonder why you got a puppy?

You love them so so much, but they're a LOT.

You’re not alone!

And that’s exactly why I created my πŸ—» Peak Puppy Potential Program πŸ—»

So you can help you feel more confident in raising your pup. More sure of what you're doing.

So you can get some control of your routine and schedule with a new puppy in the mix.

So that you can get stuff done. Because as much as you love your puppy, they’re not your only responsibility.

My puppy program isn't just about training. Don't get me wrong, that's a big part of it, for sure.

But, I also show you how to live with a baby animal that has needle-sharp teeth and loves stealing your socks.

Like, how to go through a day or week with your puppy without feeling overwhelmed by frustration, exhaustion, or uncertainty.

So while puppies ARE a lot of work, you don’t need to go it alone.

πŸ”Ή My puppy program exists to help reduce your frustration and stress, so that you can actually enjoy your new puppy.

πŸ”Ή Learn how to raise an amazing puppy who can be part of your active life, while also maintaining your sanity and health (physical and mental).

πŸ”Ή Stop struggling alone, and get the support you need. Because, as I may have mentioned, puppies a LOT, y’all!

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ It's your friendly neighborhood puppy trainer here to talk about SOCIALIZATION!

If you've got a puppy, socialization is a top priority.

It's even more important than training because socialization is ⏱ time-sensitive.

Up until around 16 weeks of age, you have a golden πŸ’Ž window of opportunity πŸ’Ž to positively impact your puppy's behavior and temperament for the rest of their life through socialization.

It's pretty incredible! And you want to take full advantage of this opportunity.

🐢 Socialization is all about giving your puppy positive, educational experiences at home and out in the world to prepare them for life as a dog in our modern, human world.

🐢 Socialization helps you raise a confident, well-adjusted dog that knows how to act in a variety of situations.

🐢 Socialization is a way we can prevent future behavior issues. And trust me, it's a lot easier to prevent behavior problems than it is to try to resolve them once they're established.

If you envision 🀩 living a fun, active life with your new pup - exploring the great outdoors, enjoying urban adventures, road trips with friends or family - socialization needs to be top of mind for you.

🚫 BUT! You also need to know that socialization is NOT a one-size-fits-all thing. What may be a wonderful experience for one puppy could be traumatizing for another. And it's more complex than just having a bunch of different people meet your puppy.

How you socialize your specific puppy and the kind of experiences you give them depends on:

πŸ”Ή Your puppy's temperament

πŸ”Ή Your puppy's breed/genetics

πŸ”Ή Your lifestyle

πŸ”Ή Your goals for your puppy

This is why socialization is a core part of my Peak Puppy Potential program! I help you socialize your unique puppy to bring out their very best puppy self.

πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ So how does it work?

Your puppy gains confidence and gets positive exposure to the world through puppy field trips!

You are welcome to meet me with your puppy at our field trip destination (which is chosen to fit your puppy and your lifestyle), or I can pick your puppy up from home and take them out on my own. You'll get video of your pup's field trip if you choose this option.

🌎 These field trips are about real-world education to prepare your puppy for life together.

πŸ’ͺ They're about boosting your puppy's confidence and teaching them how to handle themselves in a variety of circumstances.

❌ They're about preventing behavior issues before they ever start.

❀ They're about positively impacting your puppy for the rest of their life!

If you want to learn more about my puppy program, send me a message and let's talk about your pup!

❓Wish your new puppy came running the moment you called? The best time to start training a rock-solid recall is when your puppy is young!

Yep, your wild little pup can (and should) start learning how to come when called from a young age! Don't wait until your dog is 6 months or a year old to start working on their recall skills.

You got a puppy because you envision a fun, active life together, right?

The ability to call your dog to you even amidst distractions makes life so much easier and enjoyable.

Imagine feeling confident that when you call your pup, they will come running right away.

Here are just a couple stories my clients have shared with me about how recall training has made a difference in their lives:

"He got to hike and swim off-leash on our camping vacation because his recall is so sharp! Even with other dogs around, he came every time we called."

"My kid left the door open, and I didn't realize she had gotten out. Being the friendly pup she is, she was following a cyclist down the road. I used our recall word, and she came flying back to the house, thank goodness!"

This why my Peak Puppy Potential program prioritizes training πŸ’Žsolid recall skillsπŸ’Ž

Puppies in my program learn how to enthusiastically come when called πŸ“£ so that they can grow into awesome, reliable adult dogs. And owners learn how to make recalls fun and exciting πŸŽ‰ so that your puppy WANTS to come to you.

Want your puppy to learn the important skills needed for a harmonious, active life with you? Send me a message, and we can talk about your puppy!

One of the biggest reasons I invest time and energy into training my own dogs is so that I can enjoy the outdoors with them.

πŸ•πŸ•πŸšΆπŸΌβ€β™€οΈFor me, being outside in nature, with my dogs along for the adventure, is my absolute favorite thing.

There's just something about being outdoors with dogs that feels so good.

🏞 Watching them explore and sniff around, totally in their element, is both entertaining and calming.

😍 Having a shared experience together, doing something we all love.

😴 And then seeing how peaceful, calm and content they are at home after our excursions is *chef's kiss*.

As a child πŸ‘§πŸΌ, I spent as much time outside as I could. Living in a rural area meant plenty of space for hiking, fishing, climbing trees, and exploring.

My childhood dog was a six-pound Maltese, and while I adored her, I always wished she were a better adventure pal. Little Cricket didn't find tromping through weeds and creeks as exciting as I did. But I always envisioned having dogs that could accompany me on my outdoor adventures.

What my younger self didn't realize was that teaching a dog some practical life skills makes these outdoor experiences a lot more fun and relaxing.

Skills like keeping their human on their radar, coming when called, walking nicely on a leash and letting others pass on the trail help make time in nature fun for all species.

🌲🌳🌿 I can't tell you how fulfilling exploring the great outdoors is for me and my dogs, and having these skills and habits in place help make our adventures such positive experiences.

What I've also learned about adventuring with dogs is that it's best to start these skills when puppies are young.

Yep, if you envision your puppy growing into an awesome adventure companion it's best to start when your puppy is young to set them up for the most success.

Creating good patterns of behavior and lines of communication can and should start with baby puppies!

🐢 If you have a puppy, or are getting a puppy soon, and dream of enjoying the outdoors with your pup, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to work with you!

My πŸ” Peak Puppy Potential πŸ” program will help you and your puppy build the skills you need to enjoy nature together so that these experiences are fun and harmonious.

You'll also learn important, practical skills to help your puppy be a pleasant companion at home, too. Because, y'know, we can't always be out on the trail or in the water πŸ˜‰

My program helps give you confidence on raising a happy, safe, well-adjusted puppy who can be a nice housemate and a great adventure buddy.

If you'd like to know more about this program, send me a message! I'd love to hear about your puppy and the life you envision with your new friend.
