This weekend wrapped up another great clinic at Amanda Lopez’s beautiful farm DressageWorX in Sarasota! 🐎🤩 we had two days of back to back rides, thank you so much to Susan Mori & her horse Koda (pictured) as well as all of the other riders who joined Heidi for a great learning experience! Her forte really is bringing classical principles into practice in the dressage arena 🫶 on to the next clinic, and looking forward to coming back to teach these riders again!

“After years of riding Grand Prix nationally and internationally, it is a true gift to still learn at this stage of my career from a master trainer and teacher like Heidi!!

Her logical and classical approach, explaining the why and how by using bio-mechanics and then giving you a set of exercises which are tailored to horse and rider, ensure that her teachings dramatically improve your riding and competing.

And I cannot leave out her sharp and analytical eye!
A pedagogical fit for all type of riders and horses, both young and mature!”

Germany born Viola Van Lazar, who has ridden for Spain in the Nations Cup and is an avid Grand Prix competitor at the international level 🦄

Common Mistakes Judges See: Part 4, Pulling the Horse into the Leg Yield 🦵⚠️ Heidi and Oliver demonstrate a common error while riding the leg yield, using the reins to pull the horse’s shoulder over, either by crossing over the withers or opening off the shoulder. Remember, there is no “shoulder yield”! You can see in this demo how Heidi pulling the shoulders over with the reins results in a crooked, unbalanced movement.

Common Mistakes Judges See: Part 3 - Leg Yielding with a Collapsed vs Deepened Seatbone!

Here Heidi and Oliver show a common issue in the leg yield where riders get crooked in the movement, creating crookedness in the horse and allowing the shoulders to outpace the hindquarters. You can clearly see how Oliver responds in each leg yield, and how it would look in a test!

Side note:”Deepening” the seat bone doesn’t mean putting all of your weight on it. Remember the horse goes to the direction of the weight. Deepening your seat bone to encourage the horse to step toward the center of its body and at the same time put more weight in your outside stirrup, think pushing an accelerator pedal in your car. The two things together make it clear to the horse to move to the away from the inside leg and toward the outside rein.

Have you ever seen someone do a leg yield like this? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

Demonstrating Connection vs Throughness with Oliver, full video 😍🐎✨

Look at how different Oliver moves through the body when ridden from the hind legs over his back, in true thoroughness! 🤯😮🐎 This is the best way for horses to move to protect their soundness, build strength in the topline, abdominals, and haunches, and track correctly up into the hand.

Full video with voiceover coming soon!

Sun & Sand ☀️ 🐎 How we keep our horses cool, clean, and hydrated before training at HMT!

Heidi takes us step by step through prepping Ice for work after morning turnout, including removing all the sand from important areas, using Purina Ready Mash before and after the ride for hydration & electrolytes, and taking Ice’s temperature to show how sweat and hosing cools him 🔝

Heidi doing a very hands-on (literally😂) demonstration of how the horse must shift its weight & balance onto the hind end in order to be able to sit and lift the forehand! The raising of the forehand is the key principle in all classic riding, and, when paired with impulsion, balance, and relaxation result in true collection, the ultimate goal!
