Did you know that more pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year?
While we may enjoy the fireworks, many pets find the loud noises and celebrations frightening. Taking a few precautions can help keep your furry family members safe and stress-free.
â˘Keep pets indoors before festivities begin. Make sure all doors, windows, and gates are securely closed and locked.
â˘Create a calm environment by turning on a TV, radio, or white noise machine to help mask the sounds of fireworks.
â˘Set up a safe space in the innermost room of your home, away from windows and exterior doors.
â˘Offer a special distraction such as a stuffed KongÂŽ, lick mat, puzzle toy, or favorite chew to help keep your pet occupied.
â˘Consider calming aids such as a ThunderShirtÂŽ, pheromone products, or veterinarian-prescribed anxiety medication if your pet is known to be fearful of loud noises.
â˘Double-check that your pet is wearing a collar with current identification tags and that any microchip information is up to date.
â˘Never bring pets to fireworks displays, even if they seem calm. A sudden loud boom can cause even the most well-behaved pet to panic and run.
Letâs make this Independence Day safe and enjoyable for every member of the family, especially the four-legged ones!
