There’s no shortage of activity, good food, and love here at Woody’s Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary.

There’s plenty of outdoor space for leisurely walks, rolling in the grass, and playing ball. There are van rides for enrichment, visits with our horse neighbors, and time spent enjoying the beautiful countryside of northeastern Pennsylvania.

There’s fresh goat’s milk to drink, frsh food to nourish their bodies, cozy places to rest, and most importantly, the peace that comes from knowing they are safe, warm, dry, and deeply loved.

This is Woody’s Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary and Life With Old Dogs, where senior German Shepherds who were once abandoned are given a second chance at the very best life we can possibly provide for all of their remaining days.

We love our dogs. Right? And because we love our dogs, naturally, we want what's best for them.

At Woody's Place, I have a special affection for the residents and dedicate myself to enhancing their daily lives. One way I do this is by crafting homemade dog food and treats, prioritizing their health and nutrition. As a result, the happiness they display when I serve their meals is truly invaluable.

As I drive the residents through the beautiful Wayne County, PA countryside on our outings, the dogs breathe in the fresh air while I find myself staring at all the old barns.

Some are still beautifully maintained. Others are slowly being reclaimed by the earth. I can’t help but wonder about the animals, farm families, and generations of work that once filled them.

Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to them. I’ve chosen, in my own way, to live that kind of life. Less rushing. Less noise. More land, animals, old dogs, homemade food, muddy boots, and work that actually means something.

Life With Old Dogs has never been just about the dogs. It’s about the life I’ve built around them and, more and more, about opting out of modern society wherever I can in favor of something slower, simpler, and more intentional.

Friday was a busy one here at Woody’s Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary.

There was laundry to do, including Sashi’s reusable diapers and pads, muddy mats to clean, and plenty of the usual chores. But I promised the girls a nice long walk if they behaved, and they did, so off we went.

Afterward, Sashi got cleaned up and into a fresh diaper, the girls rested while I worked, and later we headed out for a long country ride. We came across turkeys in the road and a deer who was in absolutely no hurry to move, which is pretty typical around here.

Then it was home for dinner, a few more chores, and finally some rest.

Nothing fancy. Just walks, laundry, muddy paws, country roads, dinner, and caring for old dogs.

That’s life at Woody’s Place.
