Super proud of my boy!! I received Spartan February of last year 2025. He began training under saddle in August 2025 and I was handed the reins in October 2025 😀 He and I have both grown together in so many ways. 🥰 Recently, I began to work on trailering him as he was petrified 😳(literally until he was shaking all over, broke out in hives and he was drenched from head to hoof 💦 from a less than 30 minute trip to the trainer). So needless to say, we definitely needed work with him on this.
The trainer was there to guide me through the trailering process, showed me twice & from then on I worked with him. Slowly, I worked him, I didn’t push him, I guided him, I welcomed him in. I didn’t want this to be a scary place for him, I wanted this to be a place where he knew he would be safe and that he would always come back home to his buddies.
So, I started with loading him on & off. Next time a little more, until I got him on the trailer and drove him up aaaalllll the way to his pasture about 1/4 of a mile 😂 and took him off. Point is, he got on and got back off, (see, it wasn’t so scary & look theirs your buddies 🤣)
We did that a couple of times until we took him aaaalllll the way, half of a mile around the round about and came right back & he went from “ Oh my gosh, where am I” to “what wait, oh, there’s my boys 🐎😆
There again, reassuring him all is well, that the trailer doesn’t have to be scary and he will always come back to his pasture buds. 🥰
The ultimate test arrived, the deciding factor of whether he would be attending an upcoming show. Loaded him on the trailer, he was calm and willing. Took him on a 30 minute ride away to his old stumping ground 😆 The place he arrived when I first got him. He got off the trailer perfectly, but was naturally hesitant and alert, then saw his ole buddies from back in the day 😂 calmed right down and grazed as if nothing ever happened. Needless to say, he passed the test ✅
Fast forward to this day, March 28th
1hr 15min drive, crap thrown on his back freaking him out, wind blowing with things on his body he’s never had on before….yet, gracefully receiving 1st place 🥇 in the costume show 🥳 I must say again, how super proud of you I am Spartan. You are patient, kind, understanding, willing, always wanting to give your best, and you did it!!
I could have pushed him, I could have made him show under saddle, but sometimes less is more and I think we achieved much more than I could have asked for 🥰
Thanks to having a great trainer, determination, and a pretty smart guy…is a recipe for success! But what I’m most grateful for is the time we have shared and the bond and growth we have made together ❤️
Spartan, I am so grateful to have you in my life, one day I hope that my heart horse and you will be together again soon, until then you both share a piece of my heart forever 💗
