🎉🐾 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝟏𝟒𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐃𝐀𝐘, 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐘! ❤️🎂

We received the sweetest update from one of our SCDR alumni moms this week, and it absolutely made our day!

Our beautiful girl Mandy just celebrated her 14th birthday, and she's healthy, happy, incredibly loved, and living her very best life!

But Mandy's story is special for another reason, and it's one we wish more people understood…

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫-𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐲! 🐾

Mandy is one of those dogs who simply prefers the company of her humans. And while sharing her home with other dogs isn't her thing, being a devoted, loving family companion absolutely is!

Her family saw Mandy for the wonderful dog she was, embraced her personality, and gave her exactly the kind of home where she could thrive.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬, 𝟏𝟒 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞! ❤️

We have some amazing dogs in our rescue right now who are still waiting for their forever families simply because they need to be the only dog in the home.

Mandy's story is a wonderful reminder that 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐠.

Sometimes, the happiest endings happen when we stop expecting dogs to be something they're not and simply love them for who they are. ❤️

Our 9th Annual South Charlotte Dog Rescue Golf Classic is almost here, and we need some amazing volunteers to help make our biggest fundraiser of the year a HUGE success!

You don't have to know a thing about golf to join the fun! We need helping hands throughout the day with everything from event setup and golfer registration to activities on the course, auctions, and more!

Whether you can give us a few hours or spend the whole day with us, your time makes a difference!

This tournament is so much more than a day of golf. It's an opportunity to raise critical funds that allow us to continue rescuing dogs, providing lifesaving veterinary care, and finding loving forever homes.

Let's talk about Luke today! 💚🐾

**Ten years old. Green eyes. Great manners. And quite possibly one of the easiest dogs you'll ever meet.**

So why is Luke still waiting for a family?

Honestly, we wish we knew.

Luke is one of those wonderful dogs who makes being a dog owner feel easy. He's house trained, crate trained (but doesn't need it), affectionate, loyal and already knows how to live happily in a home. He loves going for walks, playing fetch, running around outside and then settling in for some serious cuddle time with his people.

And don't let that 10-year-old number fool you, Luke still has plenty of pep in his step! He's the perfect mix of fun when you're ready to play and relaxed when it's time to hang out.

Luke is also wonderful on leash. While he prefers to be the only dog in his home, he isn't reactive when he sees other dogs out on walks. He can simply enjoy an outing with his person and go about his business - something that makes life with an only-dog guy like Luke so much easier.

And people? Those are Luke's specialty. ❤️

He bonds deeply with his humans, is incredibly gentle with children, and truly just wants to be part of a family. Give him a ball to chase, a nice walk, a comfy place to sleep and people to love, and Luke is one happy boy.

There are some pretty great advantages to adopting a dog who's already figured out this whole “living with humans” thing. No puppy chaos. No starting from scratch. Luke already understands home life and is ready to walk through your door and become your devoted best friend.

He doesn't need a house full of dogs.

He just needs one family to finally choose him.

Turtle’s story with South Charlotte Dog Rescue began just a few days before Christmas in 2021.

His mama had tragically been hit in the road, and Turtle and his 11 siblings were brought to the shelter. We couldn’t imagine leaving 12 tiny, motherless puppies there over Christmas, so SCDR brought them into rescue and, appropriately, named them our 12 Days of Christmas litter. And oh my goodness, were they precious! ❤️

Over the next few months, one by one, Turtle’s siblings found their forever homes. But somehow, Turtle kept getting overlooked.

Maybe it was because he was a little more hesitant with strangers. Maybe it was because car rides were most definitely NOT his thing. Leash walks? He wasn’t particularly interested in those either. 😂 Turtle has always known what he likes - and what he doesn’t - and he’s never been afraid to let you know!

Now, nearly five years later, Turtle has grown into the sweetest, low-key, slightly stubborn little old man trapped in a dog’s body. ❤️

He’s a homebody at heart. Give Turtle a comfy couch, a fenced yard where he can putter around, a few short walks, and his favorite person nearby, and he is perfectly content. He even prefers to handle his bathroom business at home, thank you very much. 😂

Turtle was raised around lots of other dogs, but he’s selective about his canine friends. He does best with calm, easygoing female dogs, although he would be perfectly happy being your one and only and soaking up all the attention himself. Cats, however, are a definite no for Turtle.

And people? Turtle LOVES his people. Those early hesitations around strangers have turned into a genuine love of humans. Older children are the best fit for him, simply because he appreciates people who understand that not every dog enjoys being grabbed or fussed over.

Turtle isn’t looking for a family who wants a jogging partner or a dog who spends his weekends bouncing from one adventure to another.

He’s looking for his person.

Someone who appreciates slow mornings, quiet evenings, couch time, a little backyard puttering and having a loyal companion nearby. Someone who will love his quirks, laugh at his stubborn streak and understand that Turtle is happiest simply being home with the people he loves.

We’ve loved this boy since he was one of 12 tiny Christmas puppies, and it’s hard to believe he’s still waiting.

But we know his family is out there somewhere. Maybe they’ve just been waiting for Turtle, too.

We’ve spent National Black Dog Day giving some of our beautiful black pups their own Disney moment, and we couldn’t think of a sweeter boy to close out the day. ✨

Samson doesn’t need a fairy godmother, a magic wand or a wishing star, he just needs someone to see how special he already is. ❤️

His happily ever after is out there somewhere… and maybe a little Disney magic will help his forever family find him. 🪄🏡
