Pheasant Heads 🤝 Our Pet Skunk 🦨

Yep. You read that right.

These freeze-dried pheasant heads from H&N Homestead are one of our favorites to give the dogs… but Reek, our pet skunk, might actually be their BIGGEST fan. 😂

They’re made from whole pheasant — meat, bone + organs — and because the pheasants are plucked for human consumption, there are no feathers. Just a crunchy, all-natural treat with plenty of texture.

And honestly, watching Reek absolutely demolish one never gets old. 😂

✨ SPA DAY WITH BIRB! ✨

Just like our dogs need routine nail trims, ear cleanings, and dental care, our feathered friends need regular hygiene and maintenance, too!

Today, Ryan is giving Birb, our African Grey parrot, a little nail + beak maintenance. 🐦💅

And yes… it takes A LOT of patience, trust, and practice to get to this level. This didn’t happen overnight! It also helps that Ryan is very clearly Birb’s favorite. 😂

Routine care like this is an important part of keeping parrots comfortable, healthy, and thriving. And when you can make it a calm, positive experience, it makes all the difference.

Your dog’s safety doesn’t stop at the front door.

Leptospirosis (Lepto) is a bacterial disease that can cause serious kidney and liver problems and can be life-threatening. It spreads through the urine of infected animals and can contaminate soil & water.

And here in Central Wisconsin, our dogs are surrounded by environments where exposure can happen—wooded areas, marshy ground, wildlife, rodents, puddles and standing water.

Your dog doesn’t have to swim in a pond to be exposed.

It can be picked up by:
A quick sniff of contaminated grass.
A lick off the ground.
Or, a little drink from a puddle.

Sometimes, exposure happens before you even realize it or see it happen!

That’s where prevention comes in! 💉🦠

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) includes Leptospira vaccination among its core vaccines for dogs (meaning vaccination is recommended for all dogs, not just those considered “high risk”).

We require the Lepto vaccine because when your dog is in our care, we want to reduce the risks we can control.

The vaccine isn’t a guarantee, BUT it can help protect against Leptospirosis and reduce the risk of serious disease.

And because Leptospirosis can also affect people and other animals, protecting the dogs in our care helps protect our entire Unleashed Manners community!

We’re not requiring vaccines just to have another rule.We require them because we care about the dogs entrusted to us—and we want to do everything reasonably possible to keep them safe. ❤️🐾

As always, talk with your established veterinarian about your dog’s individual vaccination needs and schedule!

Socialization is about OBSERVATION, NOT interaction. 👀🐾

Think about it like this: if you walked into a room full of strangers, would you want every person coming up to hug you, touch you, and talk to you?

Probably not. 😂

Yet we often expect our dogs to do exactly that.

Dragging your dog into a busy environment and making them interact with people, children, dogs, and everything around them isn’t necessarily socialization. For some dogs, it can actually create more fear, frustration, or reactivity.

Proper socialization teaches your dog to calmly OBSERVE the world.

It provides safe exposure to new environments or distractions, helps them work through fears, and teaches neutrality.

And it doesn’t require hours of training.

For example: Take your dog to a local park bench. Sit down. Put your phone away. Be present. Let them watch the world go by.

Notice their body language. Reward them neutrally for checking in with you and making good choices.

Because in reality: You probably don’t love everything about the world, but you’ve learned how to tolerate it. Same goes for your dog!

They don’t need to love every place you take them, greet every person, or play with every dog.

They just need to learn that they can exist calmly in the world around them.

And that skill takes YOU putting in the work.

Those words from one of our recent Unleashed Manners families mean more to us than they probably realize. 🥹

Because we don’t believe dog training should be about creating a flat, robotic version of a dog.

Your dog’s quirks are part of who they are.

The funny mannerisms.
The goofy personality.
The things that make you laugh.
The way they experience the world.

We aren’t here to take those things away.

We’re here to understand why your dog does what they do, what they need, and how we can help them thrive within the environment they call home.

Your Unleashed Manners journey doesn’t end when training does. ❤️

One of the perks of being a former Unleashed Manners Board & Train client is having access to boarding with a place your dog already knows & trusts.

Whether you’re heading on vacation, recovering from surgery, or simply need a familiar place for your dog while you’re away, we’re happy to be that place. 🐾

As we look ahead to 2027, here are a few important boarding updates:

✨ Rates are NOT increasing! We’re keeping our current boarding rates the same ($30/day).

🚗 Pick-up & drop-off: Owners will be responsible for both pick-up and drop-off. If one isn’t feasible, we can accommodate it with a $50 fuel charge for the trip.

📅 14-day notice: We kindly ask for at least 14 days’ notice for all boarding reservations. Spots will be first come, first served.

🩺 Vaccinations & preventatives: All boarding dogs must be current on rabies, distemper, leptospirosis and Bordetella, as well as have active flea & tick prevention.

🦟 Flea & tick prevention is required year-round, regardless of the season!

⚠️If your dog cannot safely receive vaccinations or flea/tick prevention, we require a written medical exemption from your established veterinarian.

We understand that sometimes life happens & plans change. ❤️ We’ll always do our best to work with you when we can, but upfront communication is key to keeping everyone coordinated and, most importantly, keeping all of the dogs in our care safe.

600 reps? Those are rookie numbers! 😂

But real talk:

One of the biggest things you don’t see behind the scenes at Unleashed Manners is Ryan doing thousands of reps with your dogs.

Not hundreds. Thousands!

Day in. Day out.
Consistently.
With clear communication.
Over and over and over again.

Because teaching a dog a new skill or building a reliable behavior doesn’t happen after a handful of repetitions. It happens through consistent, intentional practice over time.

There’s no magic pill.
No secret sauce.
No shortcut that suddenly makes a behavior reliable.

It’s reps.

It’s mundane. It’s repetitive. And honestly? Sometimes it’s downright boring.

It’s training in the cold.
In the heat.
In the rain.
On the days you’re tired.
On the days your dog is having an off day.
And on the days when you’d rather just give up.

That’s what dog training actually looks like.

Dogs, just like us, are creatures of habit and routine. The more consistently we reinforce a behavior and communicate clearly, the more reliable that behavior becomes.

And that work doesn’t stop when your dog leaves training.

If you want your dog to retain the skills they learned and continue making good choices at home, you have to keep putting in the reps.

That’s also why people hire a dog trainer.

Not because we have a magic answer you don’t — but because sometimes you need someone to teach you how to communicate clearly, build a routine, troubleshoot the hard stuff, and hold you accountable to the work.

We are increasing our prices to our Board & Train Programs!
 
‼️ BOOK BEFORE THE PRICE INCREASE ‼️

Any new client consultation scheduled by November 1, 2026 will be honored at our current pricing.

Starting January 1, 2027, both Board & Train programs will increase by $500:

21-Day Board & Train (3 weeks)
→ $2,600

30-Day Board & Train (4 weeks)
→ $3,500

So, if training has been on your list, don’t wait until the new year to reach out. Once November 1 passes, new consultations will be subject to the 2027 pricing.

⭐️WHAT’S NOW INCLUDED IN 2027 BOARD & TRAIN⭐️

Both Board & Train programs will include:

• Custom Biothane leash from Reign Outdoors Co.
• Custom Biothane e-collar gear
• Prong or slip lead, when appropriate for the individual dog and their training needs

E-collars though E-Collar Technologies will continue to be sold separately.

💉 UPDATED VACCINATION + FLEA/TICK REQUIREMENTS ‼️

Beginning January 1, 2027, ALL dogs attending our programs must be current on:

✔️ Rabies

✔️ Leptospirosis
