Per the usual I didn’t take any pictures for my annual trip to Missouri for a tracking event!

This event is top notch with judges and apprentices coming from all over the country to help train! It’s nice to be able to get around like minded individuals that are also obsessed with tracking!

This event really has a good system going! Friday and Saturday are spent in the classroom or in the woods with the dogs learning about tracking and doing some practice lines. Sunday is then a testing day for these handlers.

I got lucky and got to test not one, but two awesome dogs that found the prize as the end and passed! They both did great! Congrats guys!

I am blessed to be able to do what I love to do with my doggo. It’s an added bonus that I get to teach newer handlers and watch them progress!

Next event is the one here in wisco! Then maybe Michigan with Jovie?

Hope everyone’s spring is going well turkey season is almost here!

Well folks! Season officially ended a few days ago! We had a great year! As always we are already looking forward to next year!!

When the warm weather gets here the training will start for Jovie! I’m hoping to get her into the woods A LOT this fall helping local hunters. She will be given first chance more often than not this fall. Rex will be used as backup as needed. At least that’s the plan as of now!

Lastly, thank you to all that trusted us to help this last season and previous years! We wouldn’t be where we are as a team without you guys!!

Happy day late birthday to Jovie! The rescue had a day picked close to when they thought she was born we just decided to change it to a different day! She’s been a great addition to the family can’t wait to see what comes of tracking for her! We will start the training for that when the snow melts!

Hope everyone had a safe and successful gun season! I spent it with family crammed into a stand! Seems like the season had just started and it’s already gone. Maybe get lucky with one more track but I have my doubts. All good though! We had a great year and are already looking forward to next year.

Happy holidays everyone!

Full day of tracking yesterday! We ended the day going 4-6 should have been 5-6. Yep you heard it. My first track I left a dead one. It happens. It sucks. And it never gets easier. We just came into a heavily gridded property that I couldn’t connect the pieces on. The hunter ended up finding him yesterday evening.

Track 2 pretty straight forward gut hit that was bumped and went about 400 or so is my guess

Track 3 was a rodeo. Deer had done a backtrack that took some time to figure out. He bedded at roughly 200 yards I assume was bumped and then continued to travel a literal mile where I got to see Rex show a hunter really what a tracking dog can do. Probably his best work this year.

Track 4 was an intestinal that we were riding the struggle bus on. We found where he had either bedded/stood by just luck… we didn’t track there. Stumbled on it. But I had a direction. I decided to cross a county road and do an arc a couple hundred yards from that point. It was my best guess on where he could have gone. Walked into the woods from the road 200 yards away from last spot of blood and see a spot of blood… what? How did I manage that two times 😂 I continued to walk into the woods towards where the deer had came from and found a pile of his intestines… I knew at this point it was gonna be game on. So he went to the road walked the ditch line for about another 100 yards shot across the road and went through someone’s yard dying within 30’ of the road 600-700 yards away from the hit site. Unreal. So basically what happened is… as soon as the intestines fell out of the testosterone driven buck he then knew he was hurt and we were able to track him. The only catch with tracking is these deer have to know they are hurt!!

Track 5 I honestly don’t know if he hit the deer. He said he shot a deer couldn’t find arrow. Couldn’t find blood. Couldn’t find anything besides a running track down a roadway. We were not able to figure anything out here. Just gave him peace of mind!

Track 6 the hunter had tracked and lost blood around a creek edge. We tracked another 200 to a beautiful buck!

Congrats to all that got it done!

We are still alive and out finding the elusive big bucks! Reach out if you need some help!!

Went tracking up north with a buddy last night!

This buck was hit in the intestines and traveled well over a mile from being pushed. We jumped in somewhere near the end and started tracking. At first Rex lined out but it just didn’t seem right to me so I took him back for a restart at the hunters point of loss. This time he went the same way for a short distance and picked a different trail. About 100 yards later we found a spot of blood! I would say another 100-150 we had his buck! Zero chance this buck is found without Rex. Shot 38 hours earlier and still pretty limp! We guessed he died within the last few hours.

Remember to give these deer plenty of time!!! If you hit them in the stomach or intestines you really should be giving them 24 hours this time of year.

I’m home with sick kiddos during the daylight hours here! If you need any help I’ll be booking tracks for tonight!
