Good Dog Workshop LLC We'll teach you how to 'Speak Dog' and show you what your dog is capable of! Whatever your dog's behavior, we can help you resolve it!

And we teach in 2 HOURS what other trainers can in 2 WEEKS! We'll teach you more in 2 HOURS than others can in 2 WEEKS! Our mission at Good Dog Workshop is to make a positive difference in the lives of dogs and dog owners, primarily through in-home, one-on-one training sessions, and to educate the public and dog rescue volunteers on responsible dog ownership through instruction on the natural approach to working with dogs. Our goal is to foster a relationship between animal and human that is based on trust and respect. We’ll teach you to better communicate with your dog and give you the knowledge and the confidence to work with your dog‘s nature, not against it. Essentially, we'll teach you how to ‘Speak Dog’. Nearly all unwanted dog behavior comes from instability caused by unfulfilled needs in a dog's life—such as inadequate exercise, lack of structure, no discipline, weak leadership and inconsistent training. Good Dog Workshop will show you that providing your dog with proper LEADERSHIP and EXERCISE will satisfy his instinctive, natural needs which is the foundation to developing a strong bond of trust and respect with your dog.

Another beautiful afternoon well-spent helping Seuk’s Army with their latest flight of dogs! In addition to 3 litters of puppies, Tucker, Gibby, Lilo, Stitch, Rose, Rosie (and another half dozen more whose names I can't remember) all came up from shelters around Albany, GA and made the last leg of their journey to safety in various rescue groups in New England. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who made it happen including a special thank you to pilots Kley Parkhurst, Jeremy and Steve—all of whom donate their time, planes and fuel to help dogs in need.

If you've thought about volunteering with a dog rescue, please consider becoming a part of Seuk’s Army . They are top notch!

I did some more work with foster dog WINSTON dragging a 50' lead in my unfenced yard and he was perfect with just verbal commands and corrections. He's been with me only 8 days.

Want to achieve this level of trust and respect with your dog without taking months to do it, without sending your dog off to boot camp, and without breaking the bank? Give us a call and we'll show you how to get there fast!

See this new video of foster dog WINSTON is nearly off-leash trained in 6 DAYS. I picked him up from Second Start Rescue on Sunday Oct 11.

Notice how little I use my voice with Winston when working with him outside:
1) A quick, sharp correction to address him going past the boundary of my yard,
2) Short verbal praise to reward him for complying, and finally
3) Energetic verbal command to recall to me.

Constantly talking to our dogs is for *us*...usually to self-soothe when we don't feel confident in our handling skills or don't feel comfortable in the environment. So practice using your voice sparingly with your dog. It's what Mother Nature does, so why would we think we could do better?

Had a great behavior training session the other day with Havanese FRANKLIN. His owner called us to help with his reactivity to people and other dogs. And even though Franklin started off barking and lungeing, it wasn't long before I gained his trust, introduced him to my pack, and led him into his first foray at a dog park where he quickly made friends with his new Corgi buddy PUDGE.

With the right approach, you'd be amazed how much can be accomplished in just 90 minutes. Give us a call and we can help you, too!

Here's a great way to begin testing your dog's off-leash trustworthiness. It's a lot easier than you think!

Of course, before this, you need to make sure you know how your dog walks ON-leash and that you know how he responds to you (voice commands and voice and leash corrections). But once you're confident with those skills, you can start giving your dog a little more freedom to move around a bit farther away from you to see if you are still the strongest influence or not.

New foster dog WINSTON! Picked him yesterday morning and he's doing great! This playful BIG dog has excellent house manners, rides well in a vehicle, is housetrained, and walks pretty nicely on-leash. He's a bit reactive to new dogs we pass on walks but we'll update you on that as it improves. For some reason, he's really messy when he eats—he just lets half the food fall from his mouth every time he lifts his head with a mouthful! In any case, WINSTON is a very nice dog and will make some lucky person a great companion. If you think you might be a good match for WINSTON, contact Second Start Rescue.

Here, I let Aerial, Eeyore and Callie run up to their buddies Bentley and Bob without any concerns.
When you know yourself, know your dogs, and know your environment, everything becomes predictable. That's when you can give your dogs more freedom by allowing them, for example, to reunite with their buddies knowing that everyone will stay close and behave.
Want to learn how to make your dog's behavior calm and predictable? Give us a call! 703-489-1319

Kudos to Deputy Cross of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office for his friendliness and professionalism! Two dogs were wandering around my yard this afternoon and came right up to me, so I led them into my garage, gave them water and a few snacks and called the Sheriff's Department. Deputy Cross was out here in about a half hour and got the dogs loaded up to take back to the Fauquier SPCA so their owner can be notified. Thanks, Deputy Cross!

DOCUMENTARY UPDATE!!
We had a great first day of filming yesterday! The first photoshoot was at Culpeper Regional Airport documenting animal rescue: Seuk’s Army 's latest transport of dogs coming in from Georgia via the selfless efforts of volunteer pilots Kley Parkhurst, Jerry & Steve. Their precious cargo included 9 litters of puppies, 7 adult dogs, and more kittens than I can remember.
Our second photoshoot documented dog training: I had the pleasure of helping a new client with her dog's jumping, leash pulling and socialization challenges. Within 2 hours, we successfully worked her pup through all of those issues which culminated in the pup's first foray into a dog park, where she made fast friends (literally) with a spunky Aussie named Lola.
And today's photoshoot was a full day of documenting the workings of an animal shelter: the Fauquier SPCA showed us so many aspects of their work, from exercising their dogs, their kennel cleaning process, an evaluation where I got to help them with this handsome German shepherd, and we actually got to witness a family and their Mastiff do a meet-and-greet with a young pup which turned into an adoption right then and there!
It was a busy, productive and fun weekend of starting to create this film about our relationships with dogs and how We Can Do Better. Check back for our first trailer (preview) of the film in the next week or so!

But we need your help! We are less than 10% funded and need your support to make this film. Please consider making a donation to help us produce this documentary. Your donation will go towards our next photoshoots, editing, and marketing the film so we can spread the word about how We Can Do Better.
Thanks so much for your support!
