Naomi had her first trim with the farrier since being out of the wild back in November.
She had learned to accept me handling her feet just fine, but was initially very nervous of the farrier, especially with the right front.
Between the two of us, we were able to get her to settle and trust him in very little time. 🤗

Today was Naomi's seventh ride, first time asking for the canter and she rocked it!
It depends on the horse, but I may ask them to canter as early as the first ride.
If I feel like the horse isn't ready,
whether it's mentally, or physically due due to lack of balance, I will wait until they are.
In Naomi's case it was more from lack of balance.
She really struggled with the canter on a lunge line and was dragging me around quite a bit in the beginning.
I spent the time working on getting her to canter a few strides without pulling and then I'd immediately reward, building on that until she could travel around several circles.
Today I knew she was ready to conquer it under saddle!

Gotta love a Gypsy’s rocking chair canter. Good boy JJ!

Today was Naomi‘s fifth ride with me.
She’s almost finished with her first month here and she is coming along wonderfully.
When she arrived she was nervous and unsure, but comes around super quick.
She was lightly started walk/trot in a round pen before coming to me, so I’ve been working on getting her to guide and move out relaxed and willingly in an open space.

Cherishing these moments! 🥹

Took JJ offsite for some tail training out at MattnMeg Harrison’s yesterday.
They have pretty much everything you could think of that could possibly scare a horse. 😆
JJ was such a good boy!

JJ arrived pretty sticky under saddle, so I’ve been working on his responsiveness and getting him to move out easily. After our arena session, I took him out for a short trail ride. He will be getting out and about to gain confidence on trails as much as possible.
He belongs to a sweet little girl and we need him to be safe and relaxed for her. ☺️

Lots happening for Naomi this morning! She learned to accept the Turn and Go exercise without panicking about the rope behind her and then had her teeth floated so that she can carry a bit comfortably. 🤗
