❤️ And after celebrating all our wonderful birthday pups this week, today it was time to celebrate our very own, very special boy — Harley turns 9! 🥹❤️

I can hardly believe he’s nine already! Where did the time go?

We spent the evening at the beach, enjoying a birthday cupcake and a beautiful sunset swim. And this year, Harley had his little 5-month-old brother Bandit along for the celebration, who even swam out into the ocean for the very first time! 🌊❤️

It was such a simple, beautiful evening, and I couldn’t have wished for a better way to celebrate our boy.

Happy 9th Birthday, Harley! ❤️ I wish I could slow down time just a little, but most of all, I hope we have many more years of adventures, ocean swims, and happy moments together.

We love you so, so much, Harley boy! ❤️🐾

🎉🐾 Four birthdays, four very special dogs!

We had lots to celebrate this week at Happy Dogs Maui! 🥳

Happy 1st Birthday to Honi & Hokulani, Happy 6th Birthday to Apollo, and Happy 7th Birthday to Kuma! 🎂❤️

Honi and Hokulani’s birthdays feel especially meaningful to us. Both first joined us for Puppy Stay & Learn when they were just around 5 months old, and we’ve had the joy of watching them grow through many more boarding stays and daycare days since. Along the way, these two also became the best of friends! 🥰 Seeing them grow from little puppies into the young dogs they are today, while building such a sweet friendship, is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

And of course, we loved celebrating our birthday boys Apollo and Kuma, too! 🥳

Happy Birthday to all four of you! We’re so grateful to be part of your lives and to share so many special moments along the way. ❤️🐾

This one means a little more to me. 🤍🐾

Ohana Pet Training is where my own dog-training career began. Lisa mentored me while I worked toward my CPDT certification, and I later taught classes and private lessons there. And just a few weeks ago, I found myself back at Ohana Pet Training — this time with our puppy Bandit in Puppy Kindergarten.

A lot has changed in dog training over the years. We know more than ever about how dogs learn, how behavior works, and how much our training choices can affect their welfare.

And yet dog training remains completely unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a dog trainer, regardless of education or credentials - and unfortunately shock collars and force-based methods continue to gain ground here on Maui.

That’s why this particular Best of Maui vote matters to me.

I would genuinely love to see Ohana Pet Training — and the kind of thoughtful, educated, humane dog training they represent — recognized as Best Dog Trainer on Maui.

If you know us, you know how much we care about creating an environment where dogs can feel safe, understood, and at ease — one built around understanding their behavior, their needs, and their wellbeing.

And because that same philosophy carries into everything we do with training, we also want to use this opportunity to shine a light on Ohana Pet Training and Happier Hounds Training in the Dog Trainer category.

We’re looking for one more person to join our Happy Dogs Maui team! 🐾

This is a small, steady part-time position with 3–5 short shifts per week, and we’re hoping to find the right person who would genuinely like to make Happy Dogs Maui a long-term part of their life.

This could be an especially nice fit for someone looking for meaningful, steady part-time work alongside the life they’ve already built — whether that’s another job or business, family commitments, or simply wanting a few rewarding hours in the week.

Professional dog-care experience is absolutely a plus, but it isn’t required. If we feel you’re a great fit, we’re happy to teach you how we do things here and give you the training you need to become confident in the role.

What matters most to us is reliability, good judgment, attention to detail, intentionality and a genuine sense of responsibility for the dogs in your care. You’ll eventually work quite independently, so we’re looking for someone we can truly count on — someone who takes pride in doing things well, even when no one is watching.

📍 Waiehu, Maui — because our shifts are short, this position is best suited to someone who lives nearby
🐾 3–5 short shifts/week
💵 $20/hour starting wage

How are these two already TWO?! 🥹🎂🐾

Charlie & Buddy have spent quite a bit off time with us over the past two years and have become a pretty special part of our Happy Dogs Maui ohana. ❤️

One of the sweetest parts of our Puppy Board & Train program is getting to know dogs at an early age, being there to guide them and their families through the different stages of puppyhood and adolescence, and then seeing the wonderful dogs they grow into. And with these two, we’ve been lucky enough to be there for so much of that journey.

Happy 2nd Birthday, boys!! 🎉 We love having you here and can’t wait for many more birthdays — and many more happy, healthy years — ahead. 🥰🐾

Lala update from here.. the pups are enjoying their morning and didn’t even know there was a storm as we had calming music playing all night.. it did get super windy for an hour or two around 11pm, and the stream flooded a couple of times (as you can see by the debris line). We are so very grateful to Mary Raney, Misty Raney Bilodeau, Matt Raney and the whole Homestead Rescue crew. Our Raney wall does exactly what it was built to do 🙌 And being off-grid is pretty handy too right now with the power being out in so many homes! 💡Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Lala, stay safe everyone. 🙏
