The ups and downs of cattery life… 🐾💙

Unfortunately, Cali is not pregnant. After an X-ray and ultrasound today, the vet confirmed there are no kittens.

This one is especially hard because we did see four kittens on her previous ultrasound, and Cali even developed milk. It appears that she may have experienced pregnancy loss and resorption, which can happen during pregnancy even when everything initially looks promising.

It’s definitely disappointing, but this is one of the realities of breeding. Sometimes nature has a different plan. ❤️

The good thing is, Cali won’t completely miss out on the experience. 🥹💕 She has found a new love for Billy’s baby girl Bitsy, and has been absolutely smitten with her. Maybe motherhood wasn’t in the cards for her this time, but she’s definitely enjoying her role as an honorary mama. 🐾💗

🐾💕 Alloparenting in cats is amazing!

Sometimes a queen will help care for another queen’s kittens by grooming, comforting, or even nursing them. It’s a beautiful display of trust, bonding, and natural feline instincts.

Watching Cali and Billie share this bond has been incredible. 🩷
