After a few years of dedicating everything to making my own hets I am so happy to start making some visual monsoons with hets this year. It’s been a grind but soooo worth it!

One thing I’ve learned when trying to ID incomplete dominant genes… wait for that first shed.

Fresh babies can be really misleading. Their color, contrast, blushing and pattern can change quite a bit after that first shed, and when you’re dealing with genes that can already look similar, it’s easy to convince yourself you’re seeing something that may not actually be there.

I’d much rather wait, let the baby clean up, and then look at the phenotype again with a better idea of what I’m actually working with.

It won’t make every gene obvious, but it can definitely make the ID a whole lot easier.
