So, what actually happens to your policy after you file a claim? 👀

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some claims may have little to no impact. Others could affect your premium at renewal depending on the type of claim, fault, your claims history, and your carrier’s guidelines.

Don’t let the fear of a rate change keep you from using your insurance when you need it. Filing a claim should come down to what makes the most sense for your situation.

I read a recent insurance report that surveyed homeowners who have owned their homes for at least three years. It found that 65% couldn’t say how much they were currently paying for homeowners insurance!

So, if you have been paying attention, you probably noticed that we used to be Goosehead Insurance - The Wave Agency. Well apparently, I wasn't supposed to be calling it that for the last 7 years.......

So now it is Goosehead Insurance - The Wills Agency Which means that my super memorable catch phrase, "We Shop, You Save, Jump On The Wave" now doesn't make any sense.......

So, new catch phrase!!! "Where there's a Wills, theres a way...... to save money on insurance". What do you think? I'm open to other suggestions!!

That security system may not save you much on insurance.

And if it is not monitored, it may not save you anything.

A lot of homeowners install cameras, smart locks, door sensors, and alarm systems thinking their insurance premium is about to drop in a big way. Then they call their insurance company and find out the discount is usually pretty small.

Most carriers only give the discount if the system is professionally monitored. They may also ask for an alarm certificate from the monitoring company before applying it. A doorbell camera or DIY setup might help you feel safer, but it usually does not move the insurance premium much.

That does not mean a security system is a bad idea. Get one because you want protection, peace of mind, and another layer of safety for your home. Just do not buy one expecting the insurance savings to pay for it.

But if you already have a monitored system, tell your insurance agent. The discount may not be huge, but there is no reason to leave money sitting there.

Atlantic hurricane season is only 2 days old.

If a storm hit next week, could you accurately remember everything you own after it was gone?

Most people think the hard part of a claim is the damage.

The hard part is proving what was there.

One of the best things you can do today takes less than 30 minutes. Walk through your home with your phone and record a self narrated video inventory.

Open closets. Open cabinets. Open drawers. Walk through every room and talk about what you're seeing. Mention furniture, TVs, appliances, tools, collectibles, electronics, and anything else you would want to replace after a loss.

Then email that video to an email account you create specifically for home inventory records.

While you're at it, start using that same email for major purchases. Every time you buy a new TV, laptop, appliance, or other expensive item, snap a photo of the receipt and serial number and email it to yourself.

Now everything is stored in the cloud and easy to find.

After a major loss, most people are forced to rebuild a list of their belongings from memory during one of the most stressful times of their lives.

A simple video and a dedicated email account can save hours of frustration and help document what you owned when you need it most.

Hurricane season doesn't care if you're organized.

Claims go a lot smoother when you are.
