🎉 ADOPTION SUCCESS! 🎉

We met Chuck and Carmelita through WDR fosters Jaime and Brandon, who are also two-time adopters. Chuck and Carmelita were new to dog ownership and had put off adopting a dog while Chuck’s military career required frequent moves. During that time, many military bases also have breed restrictions, so they chose to wait until they were settled and able to fully invest in a dog, and they had their hearts set on adding a pittie to their family….which we love 💖

Now retired, Chuck was ready for a walking buddy, and the whole family was excited to welcome a dog into their home.

After meeting with them, we agreed that a foster-to-adopt approach would be the best fit. This allowed everyone the chance to see how the dog’s energy matched their home. We also brought in a trainer to support the transition, focusing on leash skills and basic structure in the home. Luna was an excellent student and quickly adjusted to her new family and routine.

Now officially family, Luna enjoys daily adventures with her retired dad, plenty of love and attention from her mom, and has quickly bonded with their two daughters, who adore her.

We checked in to see how Luna is doing and how she’s impacting their lives, and they shared:

“We are so excited to officially welcome Luna into our home and are smitten. She is such a blessing! She gets all the belly rubs and head scratches she wants, walks beautifully on leash, and is learning basic commands. I love the way she's always ready with tail wags and sniffs when we come home. She's definitely bonded more with our girls, and now that school is out, that bond will grow stronger. It has been a change, but a good one! We definitely get more steps in and have a better connection with nature, getting out every day. She loves to go on car rides and Chuck takes her on regular hikes and outings.

We did our best to get our family pic with Luna looking forward-facing, but she was laser-focused on the treats in my hand 😁"

Meet Stewart! 🐾

It's hard to believe no one came looking for this adorable little guy.

Stewart was found as a stray, but he's quickly proven himself to be a wonderful companion. He's living with two dogs and a cat in foster care and gets along well with everyone. While he enjoys canine company, he's independent enough to be happy as an only dog too.

Stewart is a confident little dog with a fun personality. He can have bursts of silly puppy energy, followed by long stretches of lounging and cuddling. He's crate-trained, housetrained, sleeps through the night, and walks nicely on leash.

He's also a great little watchdog who likes to announce visitors and interesting noises, but once he's satisfied that everything is under control, he's right back to relaxing.

His foster mom describes him as incredibly sweet, easy to live with, and "10 out of 10" on the cuteness scale. ❤️

🐾 Meet Shaggy🐾

Shaggy was found abandoned alongside his mom and two brothers in rural West Virginia. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and gave the little family a safe place to stay until rescue could be found. His mom and brothers have all found their forever homes, but Shaggy is still waiting for his.

For the past few months, Shaggy has been living in foster care as part of a busy family that includes two children, two adult dogs, and frequent toddler visitors. He loves kids and is a gentle, affectionate boy who is happiest when he's included in the family fun.

Shaggy is crate trained, potty trained, sleeps through the night, and has left the baby puppy stage behind. Like many young dogs, he's still working on his leash manners and can intermittently be barky when meeting new people or dogs. He's easily redirected and would benefit from continued exposure to new environments, people, and dogs to help build his confidence.

Shaggy would do best in a suburban home with another confident, social dog to be his playmate and role model. He'd love a family with kids and has all the makings of an excellent family companion.

🐾 Meet Libby 🐾

A concerned couple, Gabby and Jon, reached out to us for help after discovering a stray momma dog and her two puppies living beneath a trailer at a construction site. Jon worked there and had been keeping an eye on the little family, slowly earning the trust of the very thin and timid momma. Knowing she needed help, Gabby and Jon made the hour-plus drive back and forth to provide food and water until a rescue solution could be found.

Thankfully, we were able to find a foster home for Libby quickly, and her puppies were also brought to safety and taken in by another local rescue.

Over the past two weeks, Libby has been living with a foster mom and dad, another dog, and has enjoyed regular interactions with visiting grandchildren and plenty of play sessions with family dogs. She's proven to be wonderful with kids and other dogs and has an incredibly sweet, gentle nature.

Libby has excellent house manners, is calm and laid-back in the home, and quickly bonded with her foster mom, Cindy, whom she now follows everywhere. While she's still building confidence and learning that the world is a safe place, she's making progress every day.

This beautiful Pointer mix would do well with another confident, social dog in the home to help show her the ropes and continue building her confidence.

It's amazing to see how far Libby has come in just a few short weeks. With continued love, patience, and stability, we know her best days are still ahead of her. ❤️

🚨NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTER 🚨

Meet Wilson! 🐾 This adorable young pup came into rescue after his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him. Wilson is now looking for an active foster or forever family that can keep up with his zest for life!

Wilson is everything people love about puppies - playful, curious, affectionate, full of personality, and adorable…look at those ears! He's a smart, high-energy boy who loves to play, explore, and stay busy. We think he needs a family who is ready for puppy mode, and another young, playful dog in the home who can help burn off some of that puppy energy.

He's crate trained, making great progress with housetraining, walks well on leash, and is learning manners and how to be part of a family. Like many adolescent pups, Wilson still thinks towels, clothing, and anything left within reach might be toys, but he's eager to learn and responds well to guidance. This type of behavior is very normal for a 6 month-old puppy and will continue to improve with training, structure, and maturity.

Once he's had his exercise and playtime, Wilson's sweet side shines through. He loves to snuggle, burrow under blankets, and curl up with his people.

🐾 Meet Lainey! 🐾

This adorable little Chihuahua mix came from a hoarding situation in South Carolina, where at one point, 51 dogs were living in a small trailer. Thankfully, family members stepped in to help, local rescues got involved, and Lainey was given the chance at a better life.

Despite her difficult start, Lainey is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and resilient little dog. Her foster mom describes her as the ultimate snuggle bug. Whether she's curled up in your lap, sitting beside you, or resting her head on your shoulder, Lainey always wants to be close to her people.

Like many dogs who have experienced instability, Lainey takes a little time to trust new people and situations. When she first arrived in foster care, she preferred to watch from her crate at a safe distance. Once she realized she was safe, she quickly bonded with her foster mom and became her constant shadow.

Lainey is crate trained, doing well with housetraining, and enjoys walks and exploring new scents. She can still be nervous on walks or meeting strangers and unfamiliar dogs, but her confidence continues to grow every day.

Because of her past, Lainey can be protective of her food around other dogs and is currently fed separately. This is easily managed, and she simply needs adopters who understand her background and are willing to continue helping her feel secure.

Beneath her cautious exterior is a loving, loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be near her people. With a little patience and understanding, Lainey will reward her forever family with endless affection and devotion.
