☀️ Tongue’s Out Thursday Feature: Juliet! 👅

Juliet has officially claimed the bench, the sunshine, and today’s Tongue’s Out Thursday spotlight.

At three years old, this brindle beauty is sweet, playful, and happiest when she gets to be right in the middle of whatever her people are doing. She loves getting outside, having fun, soaking up attention, and then settling in close once the excitement winds down.

More than anything, Juliet just wants to belong to someone. She has so much love to give and would be a wonderful match for a person or family looking for a happy, affectionate companion to share everyday life with.

That big smile pretty much says it all. Juliet is ready for adventures, affection, and finally having a family to call her own.

Come meet Juliet at Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County and help us turn that Tongue’s Out Thursday grin into a forever-home smile.

We want to send a huge round of a-paws to Lindsey and everyone from Linedancing with Lindsey for once again turning their class into an opportunity to support the animals of AWL. Their group collected another wonderful haul of donations for our shelter pets, and we are so grateful for every item that made its way through our doors.

A special thank you to Linda Watts for helping organize and deliver the donations to us!

There is something especially meaningful about seeing a group come together around something they enjoy and choose to make room in that joy for animals in need. Lindsey, Linda, and the entire class, thank you for continuing to keep AWL and our animals in your hearts.

Storm took over the airwaves this week, and this girl brought exactly the kind of energy her name promises!

A huge thank-you to Ken Lovejoy and WCCF News Radio for continuing to welcome AWL and helping our animals reach even more potential families throughout the community.

And, as always, thank you to Norm Reeves Honda Superstore Port Charlotte for supporting these special features and helping us put wonderful shelter pets like Storm in the spotlight.

Storm is just 7 months old and already 48 pounds of puppy personality. She’s affectionate, playful, happy, goofy, gentle, friendly, energetic, good with other dogs, and good with kids.

She may be named Storm, but this sweet girl is much more sunshine than thunder. She’s ready for playtime, adventures, plenty of affection, and most importantly, a family to grow up with.

Come meet Storm at the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County and see if this happy puppy is ready to blow right into your heart!

It might be Wednesday, but there’s always time for a spotlight on our amazing mascot!

Casanova and John have been keeping busy once again, spending the first week of September doing what they do best: getting out into our community and representing AWL with an incredible amount of heart.

Their week included visits to Fawcett Hospital and Subway, followed by a stop at Ho***rs, a special quilt visit, and a full Saturday with visits to both Celtic Ray and Petco. From hospital halls to local businesses, Cass seems to collect new friends everywhere he goes.

What makes these visits so special goes far beyond having an adorable mascot out in the community. Casanova’s story began right here at AWL. Today, every person he meets gets to see firsthand just how extraordinary a shelter dog can be when someone gives them the chance to thrive.

John gave Cass that chance, and together they have turned it into something much bigger. They give their time so generously, support our events, visit our community partners, and continue to be wonderful ambassadors for the animals still waiting at AWL.

We are incredibly grateful for everything John and Casanova do, and very proud to have these two representing our shelter. Give our favorite duo a little love today!

🐶 Happy National Dog Walker Appreciation Day! 🐾

Thank you doesn't begin to express the hard work, love, dedication and selflessness all of our dog walkers show each day. Thank you for showing up for our dogs — rain or shine, one walk at a time. The time you give means everything to them, and to us. You're a huge part of why AWL is able to give these dogs a better chance at finding home. We're so grateful for you. We see you and we could NOT do this without you! Just a FEW of our amazing dog walkers. There are dozens more, and we are beyond thankful! 🙏🧡

A huge thank you to one of our amazing volunteers, John Gregory, for sponsoring this week’s Runs for Rescue slot!
Today, Dixie got her 30 minutes of safe, structured run time through Canine Cardio Mobile Dog Gym.
Our volunteers already give so much of their time and love to the animals at AWL, and this extra act of kindness means eight of our shelter dogs get a chance to burn off energy, ease stress, and enjoy a much-needed reset.
Thank you, John Gregory (and Midnight), for supporting the shelter in such meaningful ways. We are so grateful for you.

This Labor Day, we want to celebrate the people behind the work.

Every clean kennel, every full food bowl, every dog walked, every cat comforted, every adoption celebrated, every foster home opened, every event staffed, every donation given, and every animal loved is made possible by an incredible community of people who choose to show up.

To our shelter staff, our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, our partners, and every supporter who helps carry this mission forward, thank you. The work of animal welfare is not always easy, but because of you, thousands of animals are given safety, care, kindness, and another chance.

Today, we’d love to fill our comments with a little extra love.

Leave a sweet message below for the staff members, volunteers, fosters, supporters, or community members who make a difference for the animals of the Animal Welfare League. Let’s make sure the people who spend so much time giving love get a little of it back today.

Happy Labor Day to the incredible people who make this work possible.

September is already giving us plenty to celebrate! This week, 64 animals traded shelter life for family life, and we could not be happier to send every one of them on their way.

🐱 Cats: Tessie, Coraline, Dingo, George, Jacqueline, Lola, Taryn, Stitch, Melvin, Heart, Dormouse, Muscadine, Cookie, Lucas, Bo Peep, Chief, Sir Lantana, Cricket, Butterfly, Pink, Sunny, Poppy, Valantine, Lucy, Seaweed, Thunder, Allie, Eddie, Loki, No Tail, Orion, Atlas, Muffin, Lara, Zara, Luna, Aileen, Ryder, She-ra, and Tiger!

🐶 Dogs: Onyx, Fuego, Mama Goose, Breakout, RootBeer, Scooby-Doo, Robyn, Reba, Dolly, Zoey, Doobie, Aspen, Fergus, Mowgli, Yeller, Snowball, Chicken, Runty, Cocoa, Laila, Indigo, Lilac, and Violet!

🐾 Small Animals: 1292-M26, our ferret friend!

That brings us to an incredible 1,534 adoptions so far in 2026, with 983 animals placed in active foster homes this year!

Every one of those numbers has a name behind it. A dog finally sleeping somewhere quiet. A cat discovering their new favorite windowsill. A foster animal getting the chance to decompress in a home. A family wondering how they ever lived without their newest member.

1,534 times this year, we have gotten to watch an animal leave us for something better. And we are nowhere near finished.

Thank you to every adopter, foster, volunteer, donor, staff member, board member, and supporter who keeps making these happy endings possible. Here’s to the next one.
