WCLRR Closing Announcement

Those of us left on the Board are devastated to announce that West Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue (WCLRR) will close. When Jolene and others left Indilab and decided to create WCLRR eight years ago they did not plan for it to become the powerhouse it became.

With a phenomenal reputation for always doing right by the dogs, WCLRR was blessed to be able to rescue and adopt more than 800 dogs. We are thankful for all who have adopted from us and gave WCLRR dogs forever homes. We are so thankful for the amazingly generous donors who made the rescue’s mission possible, along with our phenomenal volunteers. From transports to home checks to getting dogs to vets, to scouting and evaluating at shelters, to inputting data, to keeping up the website, to the biggie, fostering, it has been our volunteers and donors who have made the rescue. We have proven that together we can make a difference in who lives and dies in shelters. And all because Jolene adopted her first dog from Indi, then asked if she could help, then saw how it could be done better.

WCLRR weathered many storms, but sadly Jolene’s death was the one we could not get past. Remember Jolene, her head back, full body laugh, her love for her “girls,” her kindness to all. She would roll over if we closed without thanking WCLRR volunteers, adopters, and donors. Without all of you, doing your parts, WCLRR would not have been successful.

As Jolene would have wished, we have hired counsel to prepare the paperwork, navigate the corporate world, and legally prepare to transfer the assets of West Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue (www.wclrr.org) to Labrador Rescuers of San Diego (https://www.labrescuers.org/) and Retrievers and Friends of Southern California (https://www.retrieversandfriends.com/). If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected] and one of us will either respond, or find an answer and respond.

When you’re ready to adopt your next dog, please complete an adoption application with Labrador Rescuers (LR). They have a wonderful team of volunteers as well as dogs.

Thank you one last time from the bottom of our hearts for all your kindness, love and support all of these many years, and always remember, it was all about the dogs.

It is with great sadness that that the Board of WCLRR announces that our President, Jolene Pandza, passed away on June 24. She had a short but hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer that resisted treatment by surgery, chemo, and radiation. She worked through her pain on rescue business to the very end.

This has been a difficult and tough blow for WCLRR as an organization, for dogs in need of loving homes, for her friends, for her loving family, and for humanity in general. The organization with its many volunteers, adopters, and sponsors will continue as our tribute to her.

Jolene was a wonderful person; tough but generous, kind and loving, serious but so much fun, and the embodiment of WCLRR’s motto “We’re all about the dogs.”

Rest easy, Jolene. We will miss you every single day.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on 8/1/2026 from 4-7 pm at their home in Riverside, California. Anyone interested in attending can email [email protected] for details.

Meet Louie! Louie is a happy 10-month-old chocolate English Labrador Retriever who adores being with people and other dogs!

Louie loves a game of fetch, playing in the yard with his foster siblings, and simply following his canine friends to see what they're up to. He currently lives with four other Labrador Retrievers and fits right into the pack. He also shares his home with an indoor cat and several outdoor cats and gets along with them just fine.

Visit our official website, www.wclrr.org, for comprehensive information about this lovely dog, including its foster location and application process.

Note: We are strictly a Southern California Rescue and can only adopt in the areas that we serve.

It's so heartwarming to see rescue dogs playing together! Luna made some friends at the beach yesterday and had a great time. She's looking for a forever home and it's hard to find for a senior pup. Could it be yours?

Luna's a chocolate Labrador Retriever, about 10 years young but you'd never know it from watching her - she loves walks, car rides, and is available for snuggling anytime.

Visit our official website, www.wclrr.org, for comprehensive information about Luna and our application process.

Meet Huey! Huey is a handsome 10-month-old chocolate English Labrador Retriever with a gorgeous expressive face and a sweet, loving personality. This happy-go-lucky boy loves everyone he meets!

Huey is a medium-energy boy who loves to play! He lives with two other Labs, and they were all friends within minutes of Huey coming into the house. When he’s not playing, he likes to snuggle with his people on the couch.

Visit our official website, www.wclrr.org, for comprehensive information about this lovely dog, including its foster location and application process.

Aged to perfection and champion snugglers! Luna and Duke are senior Labs and either one could be your new best friend.

Luna is a beautiful chocolate Labrador Retriever that has plenty of energy for walks and car rides. She loves people and her happiest place is right next to you. She will co-exist with other dogs but mostly ignores them in favor of people of any age, s*x, and energy level.

Duke is a loving black Labrador Retriever with a “sugar face” that perfectly matches his gentle, affectionate personality. Duke’s favorite things in life are simple: snuggling, belly rubs, and being close to his humans. He lives with four large dogs and one small dog and they play, eat, and sleep together without any problems.
