Happy Adoption Day, Princess! 🐾❤️

Princess came to DRU in July when her family lost their job and was facing the possibility of losing their housing. They made the difficult decision to surrender her, hoping she would have the chance to find a safe and loving future.

We knew when she came in she wouldn’t be here long - she was ready to find a family who could give her the time, guidance, and love she needed.

That family turned out to be Peter and Tanya! Longtime DRU adopters, they recently lost their precious DRU girl, Lexi. When they were ready to open their hearts and home to another Doberman in need, they came for a meet and greet with several dogs – well Princess was the one!

Princess is now heading home with experienced Doberman owners, where she’ll get to go to work every day with her new dad and enjoy life to the fullest!

A huge thank-you to Peter and Tanya for once again giving a Doberman in need such a wonderful home. Congratulations to all of you—we couldn’t be happier for Princess and her new family! ❤️🐾

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐀𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲, 𝐏𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐧—𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐮𝐮𝐤𝐤𝐚! 🐾❤️

Tuukka came to DRU back in May as a stray, transferred from another shelter. From the time he arrived, he showed everyone what a truly nice boy he was—sweet, sensitive, and kind.

But you know how it goes for Dobermans with tails... they are often overlooked.

Every homeless dog takes a journey to get to where they are meant to be—loved, cared for, and home forever. And for Tuukka, that journey brought him to DRU—and into the lives of Amanda and Dave, two volunteers he connected with and would soon be his forever.

As longtime, dedicated DRU volunteers, Amanda and Dave have given countless hours to our dogs each week and have always been there to help at our events. Their steady presence and gentle way with dogs made a difference for Tuukka—he knew them, trusted them, and felt comfortable in their care. Now, one very special boy gets to give them something in return—his love, companionship, and plenty of Doberman fun.

Congratulations, Tuukka, Amanda, and Dave! We can't wait to follow along as your new adventure together begins!

𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐃𝐑𝐔 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: At DRU, Well-Being isn’t optional — it’s part of every single day. 🐾❤️

Every day at DRU, we set aside about 2½ hours for our Well-Being Program—dedicated time for staff to work with their assigned dogs.

This focused time gives each dog the chance to get individual attention, build confidence, practice skills, and simply enjoy themselves. Their sessions may include enrichment, obedience, exercise, group walks, a quiet stroll in the woods, or just some good old-fashioned playtime.

For Basil, who has been with us for four years, his favorite Well-Being activity is playtime with his Kong Wubba and Jolly Ball! 😂 And as you can see, he takes his playtime very seriously.

This is how we keep our dogs happy, engaged, and mentally and physically healthy as they wait for their forever homes — and why Well-Being time matters so much at DRU. 🐾❤️🐾❤️

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐀𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲, 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐲! 🐾❤️

Paisley has been at DRU for just over a year. She had several meet and greets, but her perfect match took a little longer to find her — through no fault of her own.

And then Joe came along.

A longtime DRU adopter, Joe knew right away that Paisley would be a wonderful fit for his home and his lifestyle. He has acres of beautiful property to explore, and Paisley will be right there beside him for all the adventures. Several times a day, Joe heads out on his electric bike to ride the land — and now Paisley gets to run alongside him, sniff, explore, and chase as many squirrels as her heart desires!

After waiting so long, Paisley has finally found someone who appreciates her exactly as she is. A great home, endless room to roam, squirrels to chase, and plenty of adventures ahead… it sounds like a perfect match to us.
