It is daunting to learn that even your mentors don’t always get it right. That sometimes pinned ears mean get the hell out of the way, but other times they are a question of your integrity, to see if you’ll break like all the others before you.

Just like any other horseman, I am always still learning more about my own horses, and more about the species as a whole. In that process I have learned to safely listen.

I used to be that girl at the barn getting run over by the big horses because I didn’t want to put a chain on their noses. I was the one feeding treats instead of forcing them to stand. It was not safe, but it was the start.

I was lucky to find some incredible mentors who helped me get from there to where I am now, and I want to help do the same for you and your horse.

We are all capable of communicating with our horses and listening to what they have to say.

Why is it so hard to slow down?

Try to spend 30 seconds, focused on your breath with your horse and ask yourself this question.

My answer changes daily. From the length of my to-do list to the fast paced nature of our society, there’s always an underlying pressure for me to go go go.

Taking the time to slow down with horses teaches me how to do the same in my own life.

Springtime is approaching 🌼

Love getting to still play a role in sweet Daisy’s life.

When I decided to downsize the herd, it was crucial Daisy found the absolute perfect home. It’s safe to say she found that and much more with her forever family.

We’ve been working on helping Daisy release tension and build confidence in her new environment. Daisy has also been teaching some beginner lessons to one of her new kiddos. 💛

Back to business with Butters!

Returning to teaching and training after becoming a new mother has been such a joy. I am so grateful to do what I love, and to have such compassionate clients. This would not be possible for me without you and your amazing equines. Every horse has blown me away in our recent sessions with how seamless they have come back into work. I am so lucky to be a part of your journeys together.

✨Client spotlight: Kim & Romeo✨

After over 15 years together, this pair has developed a connection that allows them to explore new and hard things together, supporting each other as they go.

After a large chunk of time off, both Romeo and Kim have been working really hard to get back into shape together mentally and physically.

Being the big, beautiful boy that he is, Romeo has a whole lot of body and not a whole lot of confidence in how to use it. On its own, his body found a state of tightness and shorter expressions of movement.

At first, he was confused by the ease and slow nature of this work that requires seemingly very little of him physically. This caused some tension mentally as he struggled to fully inhabit his body and be present with it; he would much rather do a trick or a fancy move than stand and be. As we worked through this initial resistance, Romeo has begun to find relaxation and has become very receptive to the academic work. This means we are now beginning to really dive into more complex exercises and seeing even more positive change in Romeo’s movement patterns 🎉

Due to the strength of their relationship, these two are progressing steadily. They already had such a strong language between them, that applying it to this new way of being together has come with an ease that is lovely to witness.

I am so proud of this pair, and so grateful to be a part of their continued evolution 💞

And then there were three…🐦‍⬛

At the end of November, we’ll be welcoming a little baby boy into our family 🐣 With big changes ahead, we have dialed back our on-farm operation. For the next few months Scraps, Dexter, and Karl will be holding down the fort and making things around here much easier for me to maintain.

At the beginning of 2025, we will open again for full and partial boarders 🎉🦄 Stay tuned for updates as the new year approaches!
