🐾 Yogi Update! 🐾

I wanted to share a little update on Yogi because he is doing so well in his forever home! 💙

There was a lot of interest in Yogi while he was in the rescue, and we did several meet & greets. This is exactly why I do them, and sometimes more than one with a potential adopter. It gives me a chance to see how the dog and the person interact and whether they truly hit it off.

Yogi was also very good at letting me know when he wasn’t comfortable with someone. 😂 With some people, he would bark or growl and just wasn’t feeling it.

Then he met this gentleman, and it was completely different. No growling, no barking. Yogi was comfortable with him, their meet & greets went great, and you could see the connection.

And look at him now! ❤️ He’s walking nicely on leash, loving the girls, playing with his tennis balls, and settling right into his new home.

This is exactly what meet & greets are for. Making sure it’s the right fit and helping each rescue dog find their forever home. 🐾💙

🐾 For Everyone Who Has Messaged Me About Training 🐾

I’ve received so many messages about dog training, and I haven’t been able to get back to everyone. I do train and work with dogs, but right now I’m completely booked between the rescue, babysitting, and the dogs I’m already working with.

If you’re looking for a trainer, I highly recommend Tony at K-9 Academy I’ve worked with him personally, he has worked with dogs from my rescue, and he’s someone I completely trust. I also reach out to him for recommendations for trusted trainers in other areas.

🐾 Well… we tried! 😂

Getting this crew to sit still and look at the camera at the same time is definitely easier said than done!

In the picture we have Smoky, Cookie, Nilla, Roux, Zara, Sadie, and Dog. 💙🐾

We’re still missing Dozer, Lady, and of course the puppies, but I’d say this crew did pretty good! It took a few tries, but these are good enough for now 😂

Not a perfect photo, but definitely a pretty good picture of most of the rescue crew together. ❤️🐾

🐾 HELP US GIVE THIS SWEET
BOY A NEW NAME! 🐾

Since coming to 2ndchancehealers, we found out that he really doesn’t respond to the name he had before. With this being a fresh start for him, I think he deserves a name that’s all his own. ❤️

His vet appointment is next Thursday at 10:45 AM, and I would LOVE to have his new name picked out before he walks into that appointment!

So let’s have some fun with this. Drop your best name ideas in the comments, but there are a couple rules:

🐾 We want something different, unique and fitting for this sweet boy!

🐾 Puppy Update! 🐾

One of our puppies will officially be leaving us this week for his new home! ❤️ That will leave us with three puppies two boys and one girl.

We also have a meet & greet tomorrow with the three puppies that are still here, so we’ll see how everything goes and how many may still be looking for homes afterward. 🐶💕

I also wanted to give everyone an update on our little brindle boy with the front leg/paw that looks different. He has already been seen by our veterinarian, and the vet diagnosed him with carpal laxity. This is a developmental issue that can happen in growing puppies where the supporting structures around the wrist area are still developing, causing the leg/paw to bend or buckle.

He is not acting painful, and he runs, plays and acts like a happy puppy. His braces have now arrived, and per our veterinarian’s instructions, he wears them during the day and they come off at night. We’ll continue working with him and following our vet’s recommendations as he grows. ❤️

I know his leg looks concerning when you first see it, which is why I wanted everyone to know that he has been evaluated by a veterinarian and we are actively treating and monitoring it.

These babies have come such a long way from the day Momma Dog arrived at the rescue and gave birth. Seeing them grow, get healthy and begin finding their forever families makes everything worth it. 🐾❤️

🐾💙 YOGI HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN ADOPTED! 💙🐾

What a journey this boy has had. From the day Yogi came into 2ndChanceHealers, the goal was never just to find him a home it was to find him the right home for Yogi.

We’ve spent time getting to know him, working with him, taking him on adventures, watching him learn, settle in, and show us more and more of who he really is. Yogi is a young Australian Cattle Dog Blue Heeler with all that intelligence, energy, loyalty, and personality that comes with the breed. He needed someone who truly understood heelers and wouldn’t expect him to be something he isn’t.

Today Yogi had his meet & greet with someone who has years of experience with Australian Cattle Dogs/Blue Heelers and previously had one for many years who passed away from old age. And sometimes you can just see when things are falling into place.

Yogi has officially found his forever home. 🏡🐾

This is exactly why I take my time with these dogs. It isn’t about how quickly I can adopt them out. It’s about learning each dog and finding the person and home where they have the best chance to thrive for the rest of their life.

🐾 A Little Update on Dog Today 🐾

Dog had another busy day today! I’ve been continuing to get him out, take him on hikes, expose him to different environments, and slowly introduce him to the different dogs here.

Today, Dog and Roux, an 8-year-old German Shepherd, went on a hike and spent some time at the beach. Then Dog and Sadie, a 2-year-old Mini Aussie/Border Collie, went on the waterfall hike together. He did really well on both hikes. We passed adults and children while we were out, and he was completely fine. He didn’t bark at adults or children from the car while we were parked or while we were out hiking.

So far, Dog has been around:

Smoky Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler

He’s been playing and getting along with everyone he’s been introduced to. He has also been around the four 11-week-old puppies currently in the rescue and available for adoption, and he did great with them too.

The only two dogs in the rescue he has not been introduced to yet are Lady a 4 year old German Shepherd and Dozer a 9 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. I’m still working with Lady and Dozer separately, so I’m not rushing those introductions.

And apparently Dog has decided that while we’re parked and I’m gathering the leashes and everything we need, the front seat and center console are the best places to wait. 😂 He’ll sit up front or right in the middle on my console and then hop into the back to play with the other dog. Just like some of the others, he also thinks the shifter is a great place to put his paw, so I have to keep my hand there so he doesn’t put my car in neutral. 😂

I already told him if he doesn’t learn to stay still, he’s getting seat-belted in the back. 😂🐾

I’ll try to get a video later today or tomorrow of everyone together so everyone can see how he’s doing with the other dogs. So far, he’s been doing really well, and I’m continuing to learn more about him every day. 💙

🐾 Yogi Has a Meet & Greet Today! 🐾

Yogi is heading to a meet & greet today with someone who has years of experience with Australian Cattle Dogs/Blue Heelers. He previously had one for many years who passed away from old age, and he’s now ready to see if Yogi could be the right companion for him. 💙

If everything goes well and we feel this is the right match for Yogi, we’ll move forward with the adoption process. 🐾🤞
