Caccia (wearing teal collar) got to spend some time with her brothers, Kobar (wearing red collar) and Tyson (wearing brown collar), yesterday for a little playtime and nail trims. The boys are looking fantastic and Caccia was very happy to see them both again.

It’s always fun getting to see our puppies as they grow, especially when they get the chance to reunite with their siblings!

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out publicly and privately checking in on how our best girl is doing. So without further ado, here is a little update on Mama P!

Piper is doing absolutely fantastic and recovering extremely well from her spay surgery. She’s been comfortable, happy, and completely herself through the whole process. In true Piper fashion, she’s made the whole thing easy. She has such a good brain and is so well mannered that settling in and taking it easy has been no issue for her. We couldn’t be happier with how well our girl is doing!

And just like that… Piper’s uterus has officially been YEETED. She made it through surgery with no complications and is now home resting.

Our matriarch is officially retired and onto her next chapter of being spoiled, supervising everyone else, not having to worry about heat cycles getting in the way of fastCAT runs, and eventually enjoying her role as Grandma Piper.

A huge thank you to Dr. Vogel and the entire team at Bay View Vet for always being absolute rockstars and taking such great care of all of our girls. We couldn’t ask for a better team to trust with our dogs.

After a lot of deliberation, we’ve made the bittersweet decision to officially retire Piper from our breeding program.

This wasn’t an easy decision by any means. Piper is the dog who made VGSD what it is today. She has given us five litters, raised some incredible puppies, and left her mark on our program in more ways than we could ever put into words. She is, and always will be, the matriarch of our kennel.

As hard as it is to close this chapter, we feel that it’s her time. Piper still has plenty of life ahead of her, and now she gets to spend it simply being a dog going on adventures, enjoying the things she loves, and will be taking on a new role as grandma to the future generations of VGSD puppies.

It’s definitely bittersweet knowing we’ll never have another Piper litter, but we’re incredibly proud of everything she has given us and even more excited that her legacy will continue through Britta and hopefully Caccia.

Retirement looks good on you, Piper. You’ve more than earned it.

Seeing puppies thrive in their new homes always makes the goodbyes worth it.

Kobar and Tyson are settled in great with their families in each of their homes. We love they still get to see each other and getting updates as they grow. Thanks for sharing these handsome boys!

Caccia’s first trip through the car wash!

She clearly had no idea what was happening and watched everything going on around her, but never felt the need to move or react. She simply took it all in and carried on.

Moments like this are always fun to watch, especially with a young dog we bred and raised ourselves. A stable, confident temperament is something we put a lot of importance on in our breeding program, and seeing those qualities come through in Caccia as she experiences more of the world is exactly what we hope to see.

Caccia, Piper, and Britta had an absolute blast swimming in the lake yesterday while Rowena chose to just get her feet wet and play with Wanda and Rota by the shore instead. Watching Caccia’s confidence grow with every new adventure has been so much fun!
