Yes, we are **definitely still raising Siberian Huskies!** ❤️ They’ve just been getting reserved so quickly that I haven’t always gotten around to posting them here on the book of faces.

Currently we have **these two beautiful girls that are ready go to, a much younger black and white female **, along with a **very nice black & white boy not listed yet**, looking for their families. We may also have a **14-week-old grey male with an exceptional pedigree** available.

We have a few very nice Yakutian Laika littles available, as well as a few older pups looking for their perfect homes as we make our final selections on the dogs who will carry on a couple of particular bloodlines here at NorthStar. **More information on those boys later!**

📍 Located in Texas, but we have an **upcoming Northeast trip next month**, which may make getting one of our littles home much easier for families along our route.

The Nenets Laika Herding Style

When people hear “herding dog,” they often picture a Border Collie crouching low, circling sheep, and driving them from behind. The Nenets Laika has a very different style of working.

Historically developed alongside the Nenets people and their reindeer herds, the Nenets Laika is a gatherer, controller, and protector of the herd.

Rather than simply pushing animals forward, they work around the edges of the herd, using movement, positioning, and presence to keep reindeer together and prevent them from scattering. They can move quickly from one side of the herd to another, responding to animals that break away and helping bring them back toward the group.

Their intelligence and agility allow them to constantly read what is happening around them. They learn to anticipate movement, react quickly, and adjust their position depending on what the herd is doing.

One of the most fascinating parts of the Nenets Laika is their ability to work independently while still taking direction from their handler. They aren't simply waiting for someone to tell them every step. A good working Nenets is thinking, watching, and making decisions.

The Nenets Laika isn't just a companion with a herding instinct. Herding is part of what this breed was built to do.
