🎓🐾 Congratulations to Winston, Our Newest Custom Board & Train Graduate!

Let’s get one thing straight: Winston is absolutely adorable, and the little stinker knows it! 😂

Winston strutted into The Academy like a career criminal who had spent his entire life getting away with his devious deeds for one simple reason: he was just too darn cute to prosecute!

Unfortunately for Winston, he quickly discovered that his good looks weren’t going to get him out of training!

Before long, our handsome little outlaw traded a life of crime for a life of obedience and was looking just as good on the end of a leash as he did posing for the camera. Winston worked hard, learned his new skills, and proved there’s plenty of brains hiding behind that adorable face.

Now Winston has officially graduated from his Custom Board & Train Program and returned home with a whole new set of skills.

He may have arrived as the cutest little criminal in town, but he left as the cutest trained dog on the block! ❤️

Congratulations, Winston! We’re going to miss that face!

🎓🐾 **Congratulations to Scout, Our Newest Reactive Dog Board & Train Graduate!

Scout may very well hold the distinction of being the calmest dog we’ve ever had participate in our Reactive Dog Program. But don’t let that calm demeanor fool you. This boy came to us with some very definite opinions about certain things in his world!

Unfamiliar people passing by at the park? Hysterics.
Cell phone starts ringing? Hysterics.
Doorbell chimes? Hysterics.
Vacuum cleaner or mop appears? You guessed it... HYSTERICS! 😂

Fortunately, Scout is an exceptionally intelligent dog, and I have no doubt his intelligence contributed greatly to how quickly he progressed. It didn’t take him long to figure out that his old strategy of becoming completely unglued whenever something made him uncomfortable wasn’t nearly as effective as the new strategy we introduced during training.

Rather than simply trying to stop Scout’s reactions, we worked on changing how he perceived and responded to those provocative stimuli. Through training, controlled exposure, repetition, and lots of successful experiences, Scout learned that unfamiliar people, ringing phones, doorbells, vacuums, mops, and the other things that previously sent him over the edge didn’t require the response he had been giving them.

And Scout learned FAST!

The best part?

Scout has now returned home, and his owner reports that he is a “wonderful” dog.

That’s what makes Reactive Dog training so rewarding. The graduation itself is exciting, but hearing that the training is transferring into the real world and making life better for both the dog and the family is the real victory.

Congratulations, Scout! You traded the hysterics for a much better strategy, and we couldn’t be prouder of you!

Tomorrow at 7:00 AM, your favorite monthly dog nerd newsletter hits your inbox. ☕🐕

This month, we’re diving into what we call The Golden Command.

It’s the one cue that can give your dog more freedom, make everyday life dramatically easier, and, in the right moment, save their life.

But most people practice it in a way that accidentally makes it weaker.

Tomorrow’s issue of The Canine Brew gets into why that happens, what dogs actually learn when we call them, and how to build a response that holds up when it really matters.

Check your inbox at 7:00 AM. You’ll want this one.

🎓🐾 Congratulations to Bo, Our Newest Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Graduate!

If happiness had four legs and a tail, we're pretty sure its name would be Bo!

Bo arrived at TACBT as the definition of a happy-go-lucky puppy. He brought an endless supply of energy, enthusiasm for absolutely EVERYTHING, and a wiggly little body that sometimes seemed to be moving in three different directions at once!

Yes, Bo is officially a certified WIGGLE MACHINE!

Throughout his Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Board & Train Program, our job wasn't to take away that wonderful puppy energy. It was to teach Bo how to control it.

Bo learned that there is a time to wiggle, a time to play, and a time to slow that busy little brain down, listen to his handler, and get to work. Through obedience training, impulse control, and remote collar communication, all that enthusiasm began transforming into greater focus, reliability, and self-control.

And thankfully, we didn't train the wiggle out of him!

That's one of our favorite things about training. The objective isn't to change who a dog is. It's to give that dog the skills and communication necessary to become the very best version of who they already are.

Bo is still our happy-go-lucky, energetic puppy. He just heads home with a whole lot more knowledge underneath all those wiggles!

Congratulations, Bo! Keep smiling, keep learning, and by all means, KEEP WIGGLING!

🎓🐾 Congratulations to Phin, Our Newest Enhanced Board & Train Graduate!

Some dogs walk through the doors of TACBT ready to work. Phin came through the doors ready to work, play, make friends, get some love, and have a GREAT time doing all of it! 😂

Phin is one of those dogs who simply seems happy about life. He is affectionate, energetic, enthusiastic, and absolutely thrives on praise. Let him know he did something right, and you can practically watch him grow another inch taller with pride!

Throughout his Enhanced Board & Train Program, we took that wonderful energy and enthusiasm and taught Phin to channel it into greater obedience, impulse control, and reliability.

One of Phin's greatest qualities is his relationship with the family's children. He LOVES playing with them, but underneath all that energy is an incredibly patient and affectionate dog. Developing the control necessary to balance his enthusiasm with good manners was an important part of preparing him for life back home with the family he loves so much.

And Phin certainly didn't lose his personality along the way!

He's still happy. Still energetic. Still affectionate. Still ready to play. He just has a much better understanding of when it's time to turn all that Phin-energy ON and when it's time to settle down and listen.

Phin, you were an absolute pleasure to train. Keep loving those kids, keep enjoying life, and never stop being that wonderfully happy dog who believes a little praise is about the greatest reward in the world!

Congratulations, Phin! We are incredibly proud of you!

🎓🐾 **Congratulations to Roo, Our Newest Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Graduate!

Some dogs win you over with their personality. Others impress you with how quickly they learn. Roo managed to do both!

When Roo first arrived at TACBT, he was a little timid and unsure of his new surroundings. But it didn't take long for that shell to crack. After just a few days of building trust and working together, Roo's true personality began to shine through.

And what a personality it is!

Roo is incredibly affectionate, super smart, and surprisingly laid back for such a young puppy. While plenty of puppies believe life should be lived at 100 miles per hour, Roo seems to have figured out early that sometimes it's perfectly acceptable to slow down and enjoy the ride.

Especially if belly rubs are involved! 😂

Throughout his Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Board & Train Program, Roo proved to be an eager and capable student. As his confidence grew, so did his ability to learn and perform his new obedience skills. His calm demeanor, intelligence, and willingness to trust his trainers made him an absolute pleasure to work with.

But perhaps our favorite part of Roo's transformation was watching that initially timid puppy become increasingly confident and comfortable with the world around him.

Roo, you've got a tremendous foundation underneath you now. Keep learning, keep growing, and never lose that sweet, affectionate personality that made everyone at TACBT fall in love with you.

Congratulations, Roo! We're incredibly proud of you!

Now somebody give this graduate a belly rub. He's earned it! 😂

🎓🐾 **Congratulations to Champ, Our Newest Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Graduate!

Who says you can't teach an older dog new tricks? Champ certainly didn't get that memo! 😄

Champ came to TACBT as an older gentleman with plenty of spirit, but he also brought something younger dogs don't always have: **maturity**.

That combination of a spirited personality and mature demeanor proved to be a tremendous asset throughout his Basic + Remote Collar Enhancement Program. Champ learned that enthusiasm and self-control can coexist, and once he understood what was expected of him, he did a fantastic job developing the impulse control and obedience skills necessary to become a more reliable and enjoyable companion.

One of the things we love most about training mature dogs is watching them discover that learning has no age limit. Champ approached his training with confidence, personality, and a willingness to work, proving that age is simply another number on the training chart!

Of course, the true test of any Board & Train Program begins when the dog goes home, and the owners take over the handling.

We're thrilled to report that Champ's family says he is doing extremely well! His transition from the structure of the Academy to his home environment and, most importantly, to his owners' handling has gone beautifully.

That's what success looks like to us.

Congratulations, Champ! You brought the maturity, we added a little polish, and together we proved that an old dog can absolutely learn some impressive new tricks!

We are incredibly proud of you!

🎓🐾 Congratulations to Cruise, Our Newest Advanced Board & Train Graduate!

Some dogs graduate from a training program. Cruise decided to graduate from ALL OF THEM!

Cruise has officially completed every training program we offer at The Academy for Canine Behavior and Training, culminating in our Advanced Board & Train Program, the pinnacle of TACBT training.

And if you've ever met a Border Collie, you know they don't do much halfway. Cruise is the definition of hyper-focused. Give him a job, and he's all in. Give him a ball and fetch becomes a full-time occupation. And apparently, the local birds have also been notified that evening walks with Cruise may involve a little extracurricular activity! 😂🐦

But what makes Cruise's story so special isn't simply how many commands he knows. It's what all that training has given him and his family: FREEDOM.

Because of Cruise's extensive training and reliability, it's a rare day that you'll see his owners anywhere around town without Cruise right there beside them. Restaurants, stores, outings, walks, adventures...Cruise gets to experience life with his family because his training has given them the confidence to include him.

And ultimately, isn't that what great dog training should accomplish?

Training isn't about creating a dog that performs commands for a few minutes each day. It's about developing a dog with the skills, reliability, and self-control necessary to become a bigger part of your life.

Cruise is living proof of that.

From his first training program to Advanced, we've had the privilege of watching Cruise develop, mature, and keep raising the bar. Today, he graduates with a skill set few dogs ever achieve.

Cruise, you've officially conquered everything we've got!

Now go chase that ball, ignore those birds when you're supposed to, and keep enjoying the incredible life your training has helped make possible.

Congratulations, Cruise! We couldn't be prouder of you!
