🎓 Obedience, manners & life skills for a calmer home

To me, obedience isn’t just for the sake of controlling my dog.

It means I can load him up on a paddle board without worrying he’ll bail mid lake.

It means we can go to restaurants, breweries, trailheads, boat ramps all the places that require a dog who can actually hold a position when I need them to.

I’m not training obedience so my dog listens for the sake of listening. I’m training it so he gets to come with me.

A dog that can genuinely hold a sit/stay isn’t a dog with fewer freedoms, he’s a dog with more of them.

If you’d like to teach your dog obedience for the real world FOLLOW to see how I do it!

It’s easy to get a sit when there’s a treat in your hand and nothing else going on.

The real test? Can your dog hold it together when there’s water, wind, movement, distractions, real life?

That’s the difference between a dog who “knows” obedience and a dog whose obedience actually holds up.

For me, that reliability isn’t just about control, it’s about opening up more opportunities for us. A dog who can cooperate and follow through means I get to take him more places, try more things, bring him into more of my life instead of leaving him behind because I can’t trust him to listen.

Reliable skills aren’t the finish line. They’re the ticket to more adventures together.

Is your dog dragging you down the street instead of walking beside you? 🐾

This isn’t magic…it’s a skill, and it can be taught! You’ll need to teach your dog HOW to walk with you.

I used a handful of simple games to teach Dolly this exact transformation, no more constant pulling, no more sore shoulder, just a dog who checks in and walks with purpose beside you.

Raising a family, juggling a career, and a pup that’s running wild?!

You got a dog so the kids would have a best friend to grow up with, but now it’s chewing things up, getting in the trash, jumping on everyone, dragging you on walks, maybe even barking at other people and dogs.

With all of the responsibilities you’re juggling it’s hard to even know where to start and the info you do come across seems completely unrealistic for you to be able to implement in your busy schedule.

I totally get it! I am raising 3 kiddos who are all heavily involved in sports, I’m running a business, and maintaining my personal and client dogs training and fulfillment every single day and doing all of that as a single mom with no family even in the state to help out! I have found systems, routines, and training plans that allow me to make sure I’m teaching the dogs the skills they need to learn and meeting their needs for exercise and enrichment in a way that fits into all of the responsibilities busy moms are already juggling.

If you’d like a few tips on some things you can start today to help make life feel a little smoother DM or Comment BUSY MOM , and I’ll send you over a quick guide!

Does your dog respect you, or fear you?

Most owners land on one of two extremes.

One extreme: never let your dog feel any discomfort. No pressure, no correction, nothing they don’t want to do. It feels nice, but it also means your dog never learns they can handle hard things, or respect a boundary.

The other extreme: rule through fear. Your dog complies, but only because they’re managing risk. They’re not choosing to work with you. They’re avoiding a consequence.

The sweet spot is in the middle. It’s letting your dog work through some discomfort, with you, so they find out they’re capable, and so they learn you’re someone they can count on when things get hard. That’s not fear. That’s trust. And trust is what respect is actually built on.

Save this for your next training session.

Before → After 🐾

Zeus wasn’t coming when called. Anxious, reactive on walks, barking and charging the neighbors, his people couldn’t really take him out in public with confidence.

Now? He walks off-leash, cooperative and locked in with his handler, completely neutral around strangers and other dogs.

This is what’s possible when you build clear communication with your dog instead of just managing behavior.

Want to see more transformations like this? Follow the page for tips or reach out if you’re ready to build this with your own dog.

Turns out… you gotta f**k around to find out. And if you never f**k around, you’re never gonna find out.😂😅🤷‍♀️
Okay but honestly there’s actual truth in that joke. Early in my career I was obsessed with absorbing every bit of science I could: dog psychology, learning theory, genetics, behavior. And you NEED that foundation. No shortcuts there.
But sometimes the “by the book” approach doesn’t pan out with the dog in front of you. That’s when you have to step outside the standard playbook and try something different, the dog will tell you if it’s working.
That instinct only comes from reps. Hands on hundreds of dogs. Different breeds, different temperaments, different families, different situations.
If you’d like a free list of everything I check off with a dog before I dive in and start working on a training plan comment or DM me FIND OUT and I’ll send it over!

A lot of times we throw our dogs into situations and expect them to just handle it, then we get frustrated when they can’t.

But that’s not fair to them. If we want our dogs to be able to navigate life with us well, it doesn’t just happen. We have to teach them and help them build the skills they need.

Start with a game plan:
→ What do you actually want your dog to be able to do?
→ How do you want them to live life with you?

Then build a plan that teaches them the skills to get there so it feels smooth, peaceful, and easy for both of you. No chaos. Just a dog who knows what to do because you taught them how.

If you want help building that plan and figuring out your goals and creating a path to get there message me TRAIN!

Just dogs, being dogs.

Social time with other dogs is one of the most underrated pieces of a well-rounded dog’s life. Not chaotic, unregulated arousal… but dogs who play, then break off and do their own thing. Dogs who are actually good for each other to be around, the kind that help build better communicators, not just more excitement.

Training alone isn’t enough. If a dog’s needs aren’t met across every part of their life, including social ones, you’ll keep seeing the same little problems show up again and again.

When a dog is truly fulfilled, they can actually absorb what we’re teaching them. They show up more focused, more in tune, and more ready to work when it’s time to train.

Safe, appropriate social time is part of the foundation.

Why I believe harnesses usually are not the right answer for a strong puller!

Visit my page to see the video before this if you’d like to learn one way to hold the leash to help keep you on your feet until you have taught your dog the skills they need to walk with you without pulling your arm out of socket! ☺️
