🦷 Dental problems aren’t always routine. A broken tooth, facial swelling, oral bleeding, or sudden difficulty eating can be painful and may require prompt veterinary attention.

🤢 Other concerning signs include excessive drooling, pawing at the mouth, refusing food, or swelling around the face or jaw.

Even small wounds can be dangerous. Why?

Because bacteria from bites can quickly lead to infection under the skin.

Seek emergency care if your pet has:

• Limping or pain after an encounter
• Puncture wounds (even tiny ones)

😿 Is your cat sneezing, coughing, or drooling excessively? They may have contracted feline calicivirus, a contagious virus that targets their respiratory system and oral lining.

This disease can be spread easily through contact with an infected cat's saliva, nasal discharge, or ocular secretions. If left untreated, it can cause more serious health issues.

🐾 MYTH vs. FACT MONDAY

❌ MYTH:
“If my pet is drinking water, they can't be dehydrated.”

✅ FACT:
A pet can drink water and still become dehydrated—especially with vomiting, diarrhea, excessive panting, heat exposure, kidney disease, or other medical conditions.

Signs that your pet may be dehydrated can include:

💧 Dry or tacky gums
💧 Lethargy or weakness
💧 Excessive panting
💧 Sunken-looking eyes
💧 Decreased skin elasticity
💧 Changes in appetite or behavior

Arizona's summer heat can make hydration especially important for our pets.

If your pet is showing signs of dehydration, particularly along with vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, or other concerning symptoms, they should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

When you're concerned about your pet, don't wait for symptoms to become severe.

🐱 MYTH vs. FACT MONDAY

❌ MYTH:
Indoor cats don't need emergency veterinary care.

✅ FACT:
Indoor cats can experience emergencies, too.

Even cats who never go outside can experience:

🚨 Urinary blockages
🚨 Difficulty breathing
🚨 Poison ingestion
🚨 Seizures
🚨 Trauma or falls
🚨 Severe vomiting or diarrhea
🚨 Sudden weakness or collapse

One particularly important emergency for cats is urinary obstruction, especially in male cats. A cat that is repeatedly going to the litter box, straining to urinate, crying out, or producing little to no urine needs immediate veterinary attention.

Cats are masters at hiding illness, which means subtle changes in behavior can sometimes be the first indication that something is wrong.

Indoor doesn't mean risk-free.

If your cat suddenly isn't acting like themselves, don't ignore the change.
