It's Mushroom Season here in Trenton!
If you have a wooded, shady yard like us, youโve probably noticed mushrooms popping up overnight everywhere โ even after you pick them!
With our clay soil and all the natural wood debris from clearing, our yard produces a lot of seasonal lawn mushrooms this time of year (August-October). Itโs totally normal, but I know itโs worrying when our pups are involved.
What Iโm doing here at daycare:
โ Morning yard scan and pick every single day before dogs go out
โ Keeping the main play area cleared of branches, leaves and wood chips where mushrooms love to grow
โ Limiting play to the cleanest, most open area on heavy bloom days
โ Extra paw checks and monitoring
What to watch for at home:
If a dog nibbles a lawn mushroom, youโll usually see drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite within a few hours. Even though most lawn mushrooms cause just an upset tummy, some look-alikes can be more serious, so any mushroom eating should be a call to your vet right away.
I am on top of it here and will always call you immediately if I see any of your pups sniffing or nibbling something they shouldnโt. If you get a lot of mushrooms in your own yard too, a quick morning sweep before your dogs go out is the best prevention.
Thank you for trusting me with your babies! ๐พ๐
As always, if your pup has a sensitive stomach or likes to forage, please let me know and Iโll give them extra supervision.
