The Heat Is No Joke for Our Four-Legged Friends

As temperatures climb, it doesn't take long for a dog to become overheated — even during a short walk, a game of fetch, or simply spending time outside.

Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
• Heavy panting or excessive drooling
• Racing heart
• Glassy eyes
• Unsteady balance or weakness

If you notice these symptoms:
-Move your dog to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area immediately
-Offer small sips of water
-Apply cool (not ice-cold) water to their body, especially their paws and ears
-Contact your veterinarian if symptoms persist or worsen

Remember:
• Hot pavement can burn paw pads
• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle
• Walk during cooler morning or evening hours
• Always provide access to fresh water and shade

At The GELA Foundation, keeping pets safe is just as important as helping them find loving homes. A little prevention can save a life. Share this post to help spread awareness and protect pets during these hot summer days.

Today is National Rescue Dog Day… and for us at the GELA Foundation, it’s personal.

This foundation began with one extraordinary rescue dog named Gela. Gela wasn’t “just a dog.” She was the kind of soul that changes people. The kind that walks into your life and quietly teaches you what unconditional love really looks like. She loved everyone. Every person. Every child. Every dog. Every moment. She never met a stranger and she never met a dog she didn’t want to be friends with.

She showed us grace.
She showed us loyalty.
She showed us that love doesn’t care where you came from.
And maybe that’s why rescue dogs are so special.

Somewhere along the way, despite whatever they’ve been through… abandonment, neglect, fear, hunger, loss… they still choose love. They still wag their tails. They still trust again. They still curl up beside you like you are the greatest thing they’ve ever known.

Rescue dogs don’t care if your house is perfect. They don’t care what kind of car you drive. They don’t care about bad days, messy hair, or broken hearts. They just love you.

And honestly? Some of the very best dogs in this world are waiting in rescues and shelters right now for someone to simply give them a chance. That’s why we say:
Adopt - don't shop.
Get Extraordinary Love; ADOPT - extraordinary love absolutely comes from a rescue dog.

Gela’s legacy lives on in every life we save, every foster who says yes, every adopter who opens their heart, and every dog who gets a second chance.

So today, hug your rescue dogs a little tighter. Share their stories. Celebrate the ones we’ve loved and lost. And if you’ve ever thought about adopting… maybe this is your sign. Because one rescue dog changed our entire world.
