The weather folks are calling for another next week. Are you ready? Here's a few tips to help.
Get your groceries this weekend before the masses get to the stores on Monday night. Plan your meals for several days. Do you have a neighbor or friend that doesn't drive? Give them a call and see if they need anything.
Don't forget your pets. They need food also. Make sure you have plenty on hand. If you've bought drinking water for yourself, buy some extra for your furry friend.
Do you take any prescription meds? Do you have enough to make it through the week?
This weekend would be a good time to top off the gas tank and washer fluid in your car also. Are you wipers in good shape? Do you have a good ice scraper? Check your tires and your spare tire and make sure they're properly inflated. If you have to drive, leave early, set your speed according to road conditions, keep plenty of space between yourself and other drivers, let someone know your route and travel time, this will keep you from sitting in your car for hours if you are to become stuck, check your mirrors often for approaching emergency vehicles. Rolled up windows, running heaters and radios make it hard to hear sirens. Do not use it while driving but, don't forget your charged cell phone.
The recent cold weather has probably had your furnace working overtime. It would be a good time to replace the filter. A working carbon monoxide detector on each floor is also a great idea. Check the batteries in your flashlight, radios and smoke detectors.
This weekend might be a good time to make arrangements for daycare or schedule vacation for yourself if schools are closed.
You're home with the kids, now what? Visit the and check out some books or free, yes, free DVD's. You can also watch movies for free using your library card and Movies can be borrowed and downloaded so that they can be viewed later without an internet connection.
Stay safe and warm.
