It is with a heavy heart that I make this post to inform everyone that Boots went into labor a week and a half early and delivered 4 puppies, all of which did not make it ❤️‍🩹😞 Many, including myself, tend to think that this field of work is always positive, happy, and exciting. Unfortunately, it can be very devastating and sometimes, discouraging. I’m extremely grateful that Boots is okay but watching her try to love on her puppies and not understand why they didn’t move or whine was heartbreaking in every way imaginable. She watched as my fiancé I tried desperately to get those babies hearts beating. Being a first time mom and first litter, these types of things can happen all the time in the dog world. We are extremely confident and hopeful that in the next time around, everything will go much, much better. For now, Boots will be healing and we will be moving past this traumatic experience and looking forward to what the future will hold for her🙏🏻🤍

I’ve volunteered at a shelter, worked at a dog daycare, a vet clinic, and am currently a dog trainer and have seen SO many crazy things, I’m curious to know what you’ve experienced/ have seen!! 😆

The weather forecast this week is all ☀️ with rising heat temps, so I wanted to list off some pet friendly stores and good swimming areas here in/ near Topeka for you to take your pups to keep them cool!
Swimming areas:
- Iliff Commons
- Clarion Woods
- Mutt Run Off-Leash Dog Park (Lawrence)
- Lake Shawnee
- Perry Lake

Please be mindful of people fishing when taking your pup swimming and make sure it’s safe from blue-green algae! If you’re taking your dog to bodies of water that wild animals have access to, I recommend them having a leptospirosis vaccine as a safety precaution.

(Not all stores in the malls are dog friendly but the malls themselves are!)

These are all places to take your pups to whether it’s to train and work with them on cues/ behaviors or just to get them out of the house! Make sure to please clean up after your pups and still be cautious of the hot asphalt when walking them in/ out of places! 🫶🏼🐶

Fourth of July Doggy Style❤️🤍💙
Here’s a list of ideas to keep your pups calm and safe as 4th of July approaches!
• Use calming supplements! Look at and weigh all of your options, you’ll get what you pay for! If your dog has allergies or is pregnant, talk to your vet! (Don’t wait until this Saturday at 5:00pm to go get them either, get them ahead of time)😊
• If your dog has major anxiety, talk to your vet about trazadone. It works wonders but does need prescribed by a vet!
• Use thunder shirts. They work the same way a weighted blanket works for humans. It will help keep them calmer and feel safer. (Don’t use if you think your dog will tear it off)
• Use a TV or radio to drown out the noise. Turn on calming music or even videos/ a show for your pups to watch! (There’s cartoons on YouTube in colors your dogs can see🥰)
• If your pup is using a crate, cover the crate with a blanket! Make the environment as calm as possible.
• Enrichment/ bones- Give your dogs something to work on! Filling a kong or smear wet dog food, yogurt, peanut butter, etc in a dog bowl and freezing it will give them something to keep their brains busy. You can also use bones for enrichment as well. Meat shops usually sell uncooked dog bones that’s pups love! Stay away from rawhide!! 🦴
• Physical Stimulation- Help get energy out of your pup so they’re tired and want to sleep at night when fireworks are going off! Go on a walk, if they like water then find water for them to play in, play fetch, etc. Do whatever you can to physically stimulate them and be cautious of the heat. There are plenty of dog friendly stores you can take your pups to walk around at!🐶

Attention everyone!🚨 It’s July 1st which means we are officially in puppy month!! I can confirm that Boots is pregnant and plan to schedule an ultra sound for her in a couple of weeks to confirm how many we will be expecting! Pm me if you’re interested and feel free to guide anyone my way whose in need of a loyal companion!!💛 Since you all know what they look like as adults from a couple posts back, I thought it’d be fun for you to see what Rex and Boots looked like when they were puppies 🥰

Golden at golden hour 💛✨
If you know anything about Golden Retrievers, it’s that they have a hard time staying still 😆Every time I knelt down to take a picture, Buzz wanted to run up to me to say hi 😂 His mom did a great job of utilizing his sit and wait cues in order to be able to capture these! (Along with using a stick to get him to look at the camera of course).
