Happy birthday Boss!! I can’t believe you’re 3 years old 🥹 I’ve always been a “big dog” person but after having him, I couldn’t imagine my life without my little buddy! An update on Boots- She’s definitely been more sleepy this week given how exhausting and overwhelming Monday was for her😴 I took her to the vet and was informed that she looks healthy and is in great physical shape. I will be keeping a close eye on her for any signs of mastitis or any sort of irregular symptoms due to her not being able to nurse. Her brucellosis test came back negative again and our next step is getting a UA culture done on her. (She was too distracted by the cows that are around this clinic to give us a urine sample😂) He gave me the clear for her to try again later this fall during her next heat cycle as long as it’s no sooner than 2 months since it will take her about 8 weeks or a little more to completely heal. He believes that the stress from the 2+ weeks of fireworks earlier this month is what triggered early labor. We took many precautions to make the environment as stress free as possible for her during that time but unfortunately in my area the fireworks were awful and lasted for what seemed like forever. We will not be doing any summer litters for her again solely because we don’t want to put her through the stress of 4th of July every year, so we will only be planning for fall/ winter litters from here on out. We are extremely hopeful that this next one will work out as she is in great physical health and we will just be taking a lot more precaution. In the meantime; Rex will be getting prelims done for OFA hip/ elbow and Boots will be healing and preparing for future motherhood later this year 🤍 I also plan to start getting boots back to training to attempt getting her CGC title, we just have some work to do on her leash reactivity!

It is with a heavy heart that I make this post to inform everyone that Boots went into labor a week and a half early and delivered 4 puppies, all of which did not make it ❤️‍🩹😞 Many, including myself, tend to think that this field of work is always positive, happy, and exciting. Unfortunately, it can be very devastating and sometimes, discouraging. I’m extremely grateful that Boots is okay but watching her try to love on her puppies and not understand why they didn’t move or whine was heartbreaking in every way imaginable. She watched as my fiancé I tried desperately to get those babies hearts beating. Being a first time mom and first litter, these types of things can happen all the time in the dog world. We are extremely confident and hopeful that in the next time around, everything will go much, much better. For now, Boots will be healing and we will be moving past this traumatic experience and looking forward to what the future will hold for her🙏🏻🤍

The weather forecast this week is all ☀️ with rising heat temps, so I wanted to list off some pet friendly stores and good swimming areas here in/ near Topeka for you to take your pups to keep them cool!

- Mutt Run Off-Leash Dog Park (Lawrence)
- Lake Shawnee
- Perry Lake

Please be mindful of people fishing when taking your pup swimming and make sure it’s safe from blue-green algae! If you’re taking your dog to bodies of water that wild animals have access to, I recommend them having a leptospirosis vaccine as a safety precaution.

These are all places to take your pups to whether it’s to train and work with them on cues/ behaviors or just to get them out of the house! Make sure to please clean up after your pups and still be cautious of the hot asphalt when walking them in/ out of places! 🫶🏼🐶
