I was rescuing abused Pitbulls, in the 1980’s before it became a social outcry. I have climb fences and stolen dogs who were being abused, been part of underground railroad who took dogs that were being groomed for fighting and placed them in loving homes. uld be at pet adoption events talking to complete strangers and educating them on sterotypes and myths about pitbulls, they heard were true. How did this cause become such a strong part of who I am? It all started with a beautiful black and white pitbull named Moo. After seeing her tied to a tree for hours on end everyday as my friends and I carpooled to work in the suburbs of Chicago. Never getting any attention, quite often did not appear to have food or water, we devised a plan one night to steal her off the tree she was constantly chained to. We were successful and she lived to be 13 years old in a very pampered. The second pitbull I ever loved was a red nosed American Staffordshire I received from some close friends as a wedding gift. Nevada was the love of my life kind of dog. So much so, that when I divorced several years later, I had it put in my divorce decree that I got full custody of him. He was the only male who never let me down. But more importantly he was the loyal companion to my daughter and OVER 70 FOSTER KIDS in his 15 years of life. He was the ambassador to what was great about the breed and how they truly interact with children. He helped change the mind of hundreds of people we met over the years. Currently I have 3 pitbull dogs in my household. Keira a 17 years old fawn colored, was rescued in FL as a 12 wk old puppy from some displaced homeowners from MS, after surviving Hurricane Katrina. Freedom aka Nugget was found running loose by the Phoenix airport and we think is about 8 yrs now...
6 of those with me. Bella Luna is my daughters gray pit bull who we rescued from Maricopa Animal control. I have a 4th dog I rescued from a crack house in Phoenix, as a puppy. Titus aka TBone. Is a Dingo/ Australian Shepherd mix. RIP~
Brick was my Brindle, who was taken from a dogfighter in the suburbs of Chicago in 2009, who was training him to be a fighting dog. He died in 2015. Karma was a blue Pit, I rescued in 2012 from a backyard breeder in the suburbs of Phoenix. He died in 2016 from cancer.

In the next 4-8 weeks, you'll all be seeing the "We need to re-home our pet..." posts. These are the people who went ahead and purchased puppies, kittens, rabbits...etc. as Christmas gifts who are suddenly allergic, moving, having a baby, don't have time, their kids won't take care of it, didn't think they'd get so big, didn't think they shed, didn't think they needed food....

Problem is, 90% of unwanted pets end up in kill shelters.

Allow me to break it down for you.

You didn't know you had an allergy? Oops. Don't let the pet suffer, buy some allergy medicine.

You're moving? What city are you moving to that doesn't allow dogs? Bullsh*tville? You have a responsibility to your living, breathing family member to plan ahead to find a house, apartment or condo that will ALLOW your family member. Period. I would be HOMELESS with my pet before giving them up.

Oh, you had no idea you were due to have a baby in 2 months? Didn't know that's how it worked.. Get a dog trainer and remember that the pet was your child first.

Don't have time to let a dog out, or to have a dog just sit next to you while you're home? Really? So they're better off in a shelter than waiting in your house for you to get home? Ok, perhaps get another pet to keep them company or look for a local dog-sitter.

Oh, you mean your five-year-old didn't step up to the plate to feed, walk and scoop p**p like they promised? I guess it's time for YOU to step up and role model for your child.

Wrong size? Not cute as an adult? Sheds too much? Barks? Breathes? Not quite the personality you expected? Look in a mirror, how did you turn out? Should we send you back? 😡

Guess what? If the roles were reversed, your dog would NEVER LET YOU GO.
