Willow came from a hoarding situation of 40+ dachshunds, and when I first brought her home, she was skittish and kept her distance. I knew she had endured a lot in her little life and that trusting me would take time. She slowly but surely began to feel safe and now she follows me from room to room and even guards me from other friends / family because I’m her person and she knows she’s my baby girl.

Today, I was reminded just how far she has come, both in her healing journey mentally and physically. We do this every night. Every. Single. One. She gets her little zoomies, then rolls over on the bed for me to pet her belly.

Willow is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever had. Her story serves as a reminder to give. Dogs. TIME. No one — not even us humans — is going to feel safe and comfortable in a new place right away. Give dogs that chance. Because if you do, 99% of the time, you’re going to end up rubbing their belly every night before bed. 🩷

Today, I said goodbye to my bestest girl, Phyllis. 💔

I met Phyllis at the shelter back in May right after Walter passed away and began fostering her for Pippy’s Pals Rescue. Although she was extremely shut down when we first met, we bonded quickly and she became my shadow around the house.

She had recently lost her owner (the reason she was brought to the shelter), and after experiencing my own very difficult loss, I think loving Phyllis and being her person was so healing for both of us.

I hope she is up in the sky with her previous owner, running through fields of flowers and eating her favorite snacks. In a place where there’s no pain and no suffering. Where the stars shine the brightest and the sun even brighter.

Phyllis will forever be my bestest girl. Always. 💜

Phyllis update… 💜

Sweet girl has been having a hard time digesting things properly and has lost a significant amount of weight due to her terminal liver cancer. For now, we are giving her all the love and food she could ever ask for and keeping her comfortable.

We are monitoring her closely over the next couple of days to ensure she’s not in any pain. Taking things like this day by day is challenging because you never know when a day might be there last, but we will make the best decision for Phyllie Girl. 🥹
