UPDATE:
On March 2nd Doc went to stay with our Sherwood located trainer, Brooke Castillo. Brooke gave us this rundown of what she would be working on:
"He will be going through a complete rehab to help build his confidence in himself, trust within people as well as learning hierarchical respect and strength in obedience.
During his stay, he will have consistency in his "job", consistency in his accountability and he will learn to work for people rather than depend on himself all the while overcoming his fears in through healthy exposure.
When he returns back to Tillamook, I would highly recommend possibly having a foster for him, a home lined up, or a way to make sure he continues in accountability on his newly learned structure. That way, he does not regress in any way and your hard-earned funding is not let to waste."
The first week, the week of Mar 2nd, we received this report:
So far things are going great with Doc! We have had quite the exposure to all his worries and he has not been reactive, when at a distance. Kids, dogs, bikes, walkers. All well.
He is doing great with the dogs in my home and he is awesome with the cat.
He was even able to be pet by a complete female stranger today! That one was hard for him, but he tried!
Monday, March 9:
Doc continues to do very well. I would strongly recommend finding a foster for him to keep him sharp on his newly developed manners and trust.
Monday Mar 23:
🐾 Doc is doing GREAT! 🐾
Doc has been thriving around dogs, chickens, cats, horses — even sheep! He does have a high prey drive, but with proper management and guidance, he does not chase. He has been working successfully on an e-collar so he can safely enjoy off-leash time around animals. While he has not been turned loose directly in livestock areas, he has been living peacefully with both an indoor house cat and a barn cat. We also have lots of photos showing his progress and interactions. ❤️
Now it’s time for Doc to return to Tillamook K9 Rescue so we can help him find his perfect adoptive person or family.
What would be BEST for Doc right now is a foster home — somewhere he can continue learning, meet new people, and stay in a home environment rather than being back inside the shelter. A training session with Brooke and Doc is included!
That’s where YOU come in!
Do you have room in your heart and home to foster Doc while we search for his forever match? Fostering saves lives, changes futures, and gives dogs like Doc the best chance to shine.
