I have a question for all our dog friends…

What breed do you think Jack is? 🐾

I definitely think he some kind of Poodle, maybe a mix, but I have been wondering what else might be in there.

For some reason, I keep seeing Schnauzer. Maybe it is his coloring? Maybe his little face? Maybe I am completely wrong! 😂

So I thought I would turn to the experts... all of you!

Drop your best guess in the comments. What breeds do you see when you look at Jack?

And here’s the other question: Should I do a DNA test?

I have mixed feelings about them because when I tested Bella, my 55-pound, short-haired black dog, the results said she was a Yorkie and Golden Retriever mix. 🤔😂 Let’s just say I wasn’t entirely convinced!

🐾 A Little Jack Update 🐾

The last month has been quite the rollercoaster with Jack’s IVDD, so we had another talk with his vet about his pain management.

When his pain flared up again, I immediately put him back on his medication. Unfortunately, it takes a couple of days to really kick in, and the muscle relaxers didn’t seem to help at all during that time.

He had a few good days off medication, but then another flare-up happened. And that’s the frustrating thing about IVDD, sometimes there’s simply no way to know what triggered it. It can be something as simple as being picked up, moving the wrong way, coughing, or even walking.

He’ll stay on his medication for another week, and then we’ll decide whether to try coming off again. We may, or we may not.

At the end of the day, Jack’s comfort and quality of life are my number one priority. If staying on medication is what allows him to enjoy his life, then that’s what we’ll do. ❤️

He’s also still going to his weekly Jackupuncture appointments 😂 and mostly taking it easy… although convincing him not to fluff and roll around in his blankets is a full-time job. 😂

☀️🐾 SENIOR DOG SUMMER: Activity #4 🐾☀️

Be present. Cherish the time you have. 💜

Here’s your Senior Dog Summer activity for this week:

📵 Put your phone away for 10 minutes.

That’s it.

Give your dog ten minutes of your completely undivided attention.

Sit beside them. Pet them. Talk to them. Watch them sniff. Take a walk if they’re able. Notice the little things you might normally miss.

For me, staying present with my senior pups was/is one of the hardest and most important lessons I’ve learned.

When you love an older dog, it’s really easy to start thinking about the future.

How much time do we have left? What will happen when they get older? What if something happens?

Those thoughts are completely natural, but I’ve learned that spending too much time worrying about what might happen can steal the time we actually have together.

Tyra was the dog who first taught me this lesson. When I adopted her, I was told she probably only had a few weeks left. I spent so much time worrying about when the end would come and how much it would hurt that I realized I was missing the time when she was right there with me, still happy and enjoying her life.

She ended up making it an entire year.

And that year taught me something I’ll carry with me forever.

We don’t always know how much time we have with our dogs. But we do have today. I truly believe that staying present with her multiplied the time we had.

So this week, try putting your phone away and giving your dog ten minutes of your undivided attention.

And if ten minutes turns into thirty because you’re both enjoying it? Even better. ❤️

Happy National Dog Day! 🐶💗

Today is all about celebrating the dogs who make our lives happier, sillier, messier, and SO much better. 🐾

I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared my life with so many wonderful dogs over the years, and I’m just as grateful for all of the amazing dogs I’ve had the joy of knowing through friends and family. Each one has their own personality, their own quirks, and a special way of leaving paw prints on our hearts. ❤️

Dogs truly make life better, and I’m so lucky to have so many of them in my life. 🐾

Give your pup an extra treat, an extra belly rub, and an extra little “I love you” today. They deserve it all!

A little Jack update 💜

Things were going really well for about a week and a half, and I was feeling so hopeful that he/we were finally turning a corner and his back was healing. Then, unfortunately, on Thursday, his pain symptoms started creeping back in.

So he’s back on his medications and continuing with very limited activity and lots of rest.

It’s so hard not being able to explain to him why he has to rest, why he can’t go for walks or do much of anything. It’s just the WORST. Ugh. 😭

In the meantime, he’s getting plenty of snuggles, because that’s the one treatment plan he fully supports. 🥰
