Candy Caution: Halloween candy is dangerous for pets—especially chocolate, which is toxic to dogs and cats. Keep all treats out of reach and remind children not to share with pets. Xylitol, a sugar substitute in sugar-free gum and candy, is also toxic and must be kept away.

Costume Considerations: Dressing up pets can be fun, but not all enjoy it. If you choose a costume, make sure it fits well and doesn’t restrict movement, vision, or breathing. Avoid small, chewable parts that could be choking hazards, and watch for signs of discomfort.

Identification is Vital: With frequent door openings for trick-or-treaters, pets can slip out unnoticed. Ensure your pet wears ID tags or has a microchip. If they’re spooked by costumes or noise, keep them in a quiet room during busy hours.

Pet-Friendly Decorations: Decorations like candles, lights, and fake cobwebs can be fire or choking hazards. Use flameless candles and keep cords and décor out of reach to prevent accidents.

Noises and Strangers: Doorbells and costumed visitors can stress pets. If yours is anxious, provide a quiet, secure space. Calming aids like pheromone diffusers or soft music can also help.

Watch for Escape Artists: Be careful when opening the door—excited pets may dart outside. Keep them leashed or confined to prevent escapes.

Treats for Pets: Let pets join the fun with Halloween-themed toys or treats made for them. This way, they enjoy the holiday safely—without the risks of human candy.
