Winter is officially on its way! 🐴❄️
The herd is getting darker, the winter fluff is coming in hot, and the extra grooming sessions have officially begun.
A horse’s winter coat is an amazing natural insulator, but managing that extra hair takes a little extra strategy.
A few things we're keeping in mind as the temperatures drop:
• Deep Grooming: Curry combs are working overtime to lift trapped dirt and prevent winter skin issues like rain rot.
• Sweat Safety: Making sure every horse is completely dry post-workout before they head back out—a damp coat means a cold horse!
• Hydration Boost: Adding a bit of extra salt to their feed to stimulate thirst. Horses often drink less when the water gets chilly, so keeping them hydrated is key to preventing winter colic!
• Forage Fuel: Boosting the hay on chilly nights, since digesting fiber is a horse's best internal heater.
How are your horses looking?
Are they full-blown mammoths yet, or just starting to sprout their winter fuzz? 👇🧶
