Prickly Pear Cat Rescue and TNR We are a small nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Phoenix area East Valley cats. We began Prickly Pear Cat Rescue and TNR in the fall of 2021.

We have always been passionate about animal welfare and after a few years of working with our city to Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) community cats, along with working with other rescues for resources for adoptable kittens from local colonies, we decided to direct our efforts into creating and running a nonprofit organization so that we can continue this important work. This change in direction was du

e to the city deciding to end its funding of the TNR program and our need to continue fundraising to help these cats in a humane manner. We are a small no-kill organization with the goals of ensuring that local community cats are cared for with adequate food, safe shelter, spay and neuter, community education, and placing adoptable cats in homes.

🛠️🐾 New cat tower: inspected and officially approved!

We put together a new little tower for the cats, and of course, no piece of cat furniture is complete until it passes the most important inspection of all. Sophie was more than happy to hop in the cubby and make sure we did a proper job. 😹

We're especially happy to see Sophie enjoying herself because she's been doing so much better lately! Her fur is starting to grow back in all of the spots where she had lesions, and it's wonderful to see her skin continuing to heal.

She's also continuing to make strong progress with her FIP treatment. After everything this sweet girl has been through, seeing her feeling better, growing her fur back, playing, and inspecting new furniture is exactly what we hoped for. ❤️

Keep fighting, Sophie! We can't wait to see that beautiful coat fully grown back.

💙 Struggle Bus is determined to keep earning his name... but we're hoping this latest hurdle is one we can finally put behind him.

Before and after his cleft palate surgery, Struggle Bus has dealt with recurring sinus and respiratory infections, something we knew could be a possibility because of the challenges that come with his condition. After more testing, we finally have an answer for what has been causing his latest flare-up: mycoplasma.

While we never like getting news that there's another infection to treat, we're relieved to know what we're dealing with. Now that we've identified the cause, we're hopeful that the right treatment will get him feeling healthy again.

The best part? You'd never guess he wasn't feeling his best. In this video, Struggle Bus is doing what he loves most—wrestling with his brother, Xavier. These two have been side by side through so much. Between Xavier's cerebellar hypoplasia and Struggle Bus's cleft palate journey, they've spent countless days recovering together, encouraging one another, and proving that a rough start in life doesn't define them.

We also want to thank every one of you who has supported Struggle Bus throughout this incredibly long healing journey. Whether you've donated, shared our posts, sent kind words, or simply followed along, you've helped make it possible for him to receive the care he needs. We can't wait for the day we can say this sweet boy is finally through the worst of it. ❤️🐾

🌙💕 Bedtime routines look a little different around here.

As the house starts to settle down for the night, Sabrina has her own special way of getting ready for bed—making biscuits! She can happily knead away on the blankets, making herself the perfect cozy spot before drifting off to sleep.

Sabrina is one of the sweetest kittens we've had the pleasure of fostering. She's gentle, affectionate, and has been wonderful with all of the other rescue cats and kittens in the house. Whether she's playing with her friends during the day or winding down with a biscuit-making session at night, she always brings a little extra warmth to our home. ❤️🐾

Yesterday, we shared a video of Lego giving her son, McCoy, his morning bath. ❤️

Well today, McCoy decided it was his turn to play the UNO Reverse card on his mom. 😂

Instead of being the one getting groomed, Lego got to sit back and enjoy a spa day while McCoy lovingly cleaned her. It's one of those little moments that reminds us just how strong their bond is.

Even though all of Lego's kittens are fully grown adults now, they still adore their mom. Whether they're curled up beside her for a nap, following her around the house, or giving her a grooming session of their own, they never seem to stray too far from her.

Of course, Lego is more than happy to soak up the attention... at least for a little while. Before long, she decides that she's the one who should be doing the grooming, and the roles switch right back!

We hope this sweet little role reversal brightens your day as much as it brightened ours. 💙🐾

There's nothing quite like waking up to a mother's love. ❤️

This sweet moment was the first thing we saw this morning before Lego had her first bladder expression of the day. Overnight, we leave her out of her diaper in her pen so her skin has time to breathe and stay healthy. As soon as we checked on her, she was busy giving her son, McCoy, a thorough morning bath. 🥹

McCoy may be fully grown now, but that doesn't matter to Lego. She's still his mom, and she treats him like it every single day.

One of our favorite things about having Lego and her kittens together is seeing that their bond never faded. Throughout the day, there's almost always one of her babies curled up beside her for a nap or happily accepting a grooming session. They may all be adults now, but to Lego they'll always be her kittens.

Watching their little family stay together has been one of the greatest gifts of running this rescue. Lego has overcome so much in her life, yet she has remained the most loving, devoted mother we could ever ask for. We're so grateful that she gets to spend every day surrounded by the family she raised.

😂 Poor Sophie never saw it coming!

Xavier started up the mini-stairs like he was just minding his own business... but the moment he spotted Sophie peacefully grooming herself, he changed course and launched the world's tiniest surprise attack. After a quick wrestling match, Xavier proudly declared himself the winner with a victory lap over to his favorite brush toy for a quick groom. 😹

Watching these two play like this is something we never take for granted. Both Xavier and Sophie have faced more medical challenges than most kittens ever will, but you would never know it from the way they wrestle, play, and enjoy every moment together.

💜 We finally have some answers for sweet Sophie!

Over the past several weeks, Sophie has been through more than any kitten ever should. While we've been treating her for FIP, she developed a painful skin condition that had us making several trips back and forth to the vet in search of answers.

The biopsy results are finally in, and we're able to share that her skin issues were caused by a reaction to toxins from a staph infection. Thankfully, Sophie was already on a course of antibiotics that cleared up the infection, so now her skin can focus on healing.

She's still in the middle of her FIP treatment, so she has a long road ahead, but as you can see in this video, she's feeling so much better. She's happy, full of energy, and right back to doing what kittens do best—playing with her siblings.

This litter has certainly kept us and our veterinary team on our toes, and we couldn't be more grateful for the incredible vets who have worked alongside us every step of the way. Their dedication has made all the difference for Sophie and her medically complicated siblings.

Thank you to everyone who has been following Sophie's journey, cheering her on, and supporting her care. Every step forward feels like a victory, and we're hopeful that she'll continue making great progress. 💜🐾

❤️ Some of our favorite rescue moments happen during the quiet, everyday routines.

Expressing Lego's bladder is something we do multiple times a day, every day. It's just part of life when you care for a paraplegic cat. But as you can see, it's rarely a one-cat job. 😹 Today, Xavier decided he needed to be involved by curling up beside Lego while I tried to get her situated, and if you look in the background, you'll see Lego's son, McCoy, patiently waiting for his chance to spend time with his mom.

It's moments like these that remind us just how far Lego has come.

When we first heard about her, she had been found abandoned in a desert mobile home park here in Arizona. She was pregnant, unable to use her back legs, and dragging herself through the dirt just trying to survive. We agreed to take her in, knowing we'd have a lot to learn about caring for a paraplegic cat.

Looking back now, we wouldn't change a thing.

Lego has taught us so much—not just about expressing bladders (and bowel movements 💩), but about resilience, trust, and the incredible will that animals have to keep going. Because of her, we've been able to help other special needs cats, and she's changed the direction of our rescue in ways we never could have imagined.

Seeing Lego, her kittens, and all of our other rescue cats thriving together makes every challenge worth it. She's the reason so many other cats have gotten a second chance, and for that, she'll always hold a very special place in our hearts. ❤️🐾

💙 Xavier has absolutely zero concept of personal space... and Abaddon is far too sweet to object. 😹

In this video, our wobbly little troublemaker is determined to climb all over Abaddon and politely (or not so politely) convince him to give up one of his favorite sleeping spots—the mini couch. Abaddon, being the gentle giant that he is, barely even reacts. He's completely used to the kittens treating him like a jungle gym and a pillow at the same time.

And if you notice Sterling in the foreground, he's giving the camera his best "Could you please stop filming and let me hang out with Abaddon in peace?" stare. 😂

One of our favorite things about this rescue is watching our permanent foster cats welcome every new kitten into the family. Xavier may wobble through life with cerebellar hypoplasia, but he has no shortage of confidence, and Abaddon has no shortage of patience. It's a pretty perfect combination. ❤️🐾

💕 Some friendships just happen naturally.

In today's episode of kitten wrestling, Sabrina has recruited Spock as her playmate! Spock, one of Lego's sons, is always happy to join in on the fun, and these two can often be found chasing, wrestling, and zooming around the living room together.

One of our favorite things about this group of kittens is how easily they've become part of the family. They've formed friendships not only with each other, but also with our permanent foster cats. Watching them learn from one another, build confidence, and create these special bonds is one of the greatest joys of rescue.

Sabrina will be looking for her forever home soon, and we know she's going to bring her playful, loving personality wherever she goes. Until then, she's making the most of every wrestling match she can get! ❤️🐾
