🌊 My Rescue Horse's First Walk to the Beach 🐎
Today I walked my rescue Thoroughbred, Moka, from the ranch to the beach for the very first time. I brought my Paint Tennessee Walking Horse, Dahlia, because they now live together in the pasture, and Moka has become very attached to her. I knew having Dahlia with us would help him feel more confident.
For about 30 minutes, we took it one step at a time. I made lots of circles and used treats to keep him calm. Moka wanted to bolt because everything was new and overwhelming. I used Dahlia as a shield whenever he got anxious and was ready to run. She naturally kept him from running into me and helped him work through his fear.
In the end, all the patience paid off. Moka finally walked into the water for the first time. Watching a rescue horse face his fears and choose confidence over panic is something I'll never forget.
Next week I'll probably walk him from the ranch to the beach one more time before I ride him there. Right now, his biggest challenge is learning to be confident without Dahlia beside him, but we'll take it one step at a time. 💙🐎
