Today, it’s hard for me to talk about anything else.
There is a kind of pain that doesn’t always come from losing someone close to us. Sometimes it comes from watching our homeland, our people, the animals, and the places that are part of our story suffer… and feeling that, even when our loved ones are safe, a part of us is grieving too.
Being far away makes pain feel different.
You wish you could be there, to hug, to help, to do more… but distance can also bring a deep sense of helplessness.
And perhaps that is part of collective grief: being reminded, in such a painful way, of how fragile life is and how little truly matters when everything else falls away.
Today, my heart is with my hometown Cali, with Valle del Cauca, with Colombia. 🇨🇴
With everyone going through this difficult time, with those who are helping, and especially with the many animals who also need care, shelter, and love.
May this moment remind us that we need one another.
That we can be there for each other, even from afar.
And that when life shakes us, love, empathy, and solidarity are also ways of showing up. 🤍🐾
With love,
