Golden Years Dog Sanctuary

Golden Years Dog Sanctuary Saving senior dogs so they may enjoy the last bit of their life with love and freedom from cages. Fostering at risk cats and kittens from local shelters.

Golden years dog sanctuary is our way to help senior dogs. My husband and I rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them the best of the rest of their life. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; we went to the shelters instead. we always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else

wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time. we became a 501c so those who would like to help up feed and care for these dogs can make their contribution tax deductible. We have expanded our rescue efforts by fostering dogs as well as always having 18 at the sanctuary. join us in saving a life: Foster or adopt today.

Chancellor needs a home!! He is another wonderful dog that we rescued from the shelter. He is in a temporary home and needs a forever home. He's very sweet. in his first foster home, he did get along with the dogs. in his current temporary foster home, they're not getting along. So perhaps he's selective, but he's a great dog.And he's wonderful with people. And we need to find him a home as soon as possible. If our temporary foster decides he can no longer foster the dog, we would have to put him into boarding. we do not pull dogs out of shelter to put them back into cages. We can't rescue other dogs out of shelters until we get our own dogs in forever homes. So someone, please step up today and adopt. Call or email Susan with any questions. 818.636.1522 [email protected] 🐾

Hudson, needs a home! He is 15 pounds of love....most of the time, lol. Hudson was surrendered to the Santa Clarita Valley shelter on April 11th after he bit a child. I don't know what happened to him in his home, but I do know he's more afraid of me than he is of my husband. He was scared and hissy at the shelter. We took him into foster on April 24th. Since we've had him into foster, he's become very friendly. He lets my husband pick him up and cuddle with him. It took Hudson a little longer to get friendly with me, but he is now. He would do best in a quiet, adult only home with cat savvy people. He is ok with other cats. We only get to foster for a short time, and there are so many other cats in the shelters we want to help with fostering. , so please enrich your life and adopt today! Call or email Susan with any questions. 818.636.1522 [email protected] 🐾

I wasn't planning on saving another life today, but who am to say no when death is on the line. So meet Complicated, aka nugget. Nugget, is a 10 year old Australian shepherd who was brought to the west valley shelter as a stray on may 16, 2026. He had a large mass on his face and smaller masses on his chest and paw. He quickly came shelter volunteer favorite, yet no one wanted to adopt him. He had a deadline for last week. We asked for an extension, hoping that we would find a foster. She granted the extension that we have not been able to find a foster. For whatever reason, the veterinarian at the shelter put a drain in his tumor. Today, he shelter veterinarian felt that he was suffering and wanted to euthanize him. A volunteer reached out to ask. If we could please help him. My veterinarian was able to put him in an appointment today. So I said we would take him even though we didn't have a plan, which I never do. But the universe was looking out for him as someone who previously submitted an application called and said they they could temporarily foster a dog for two weeks. We do need to find a forever foster asap. Our veterinarian did blood work and a needle aspiration on the tumor. hopefully we'll have more answers about his health in a few days. In the meantime, he is a very sweet, calm dog. he loves going on walks and loves being with people. Save a life and foster today.

So a funny thing happened when I was at the santa clarita valley shelter yesterday, I was doing the paperwork for the cat and two different staff people asked me if I was pulling mimi, . She is a 14 year old min pin who was surrendered on May 21, 2026. I said, i didn't know who that was. I wasn't planning on taking a dog home yesterday as we are at capacity. When I back went in the medical room to see Frank, now, hunch, there was Mimi. She was shaking in her kennel. This little 14 year old min pin had an expired medical plea. The owner of the dog said she was blind and had dementia. Then I remembered. I did reply to the email on the medical plane and said I wouldn't find this law foster. I had emailed one of my temporary fosters, but I had not heard back, so I called the foster, and asked if she had room for one more. I don't like doing things last minute. But I had to get that dog out, and our foster said yesI So we pulled Mimi, now, Calypso. She also saw her our veterinarian yesterday. She has a heart murmur, but it's not bad. We're waiting to see what the blood work shows. She isnot blind, nor does she have dementia. Her foster said that Calypso is the most chill sweetest dog. I don't think it's going to be a temporary foster. There's a foster fail in the future here!

There are so many ups and downs in every day, especially in the rescue world. Yesterday was especially tough for me as it was the yarzeit of my heart horse Wolfcreek, who died in 2010. To honor him, I saved a life. Frank, is a very sweet 10-year-old Russian blue, who was surveended to the shelter on May 19th. I was at the shelter volunteering the Friday before, but I didn't see him in the medical room. The shelter issued a 24 hour plea saying that he was suffering and would be euthanized on tuesday if not rescued. I didn't even see the plea until 3 PM on tuesday. I emailed them immediately and said, please hold on to him,and I will pull him on wednesday morning. Wednesday, frank, now hunch was saved and I took him right to our vet. He has a huge tumor on his back, and he is very severely matted. They shaved some of his mats, but we still need to groom him and take care of the rest. We are so happy to get hunch the best for the rest of his life. If you're interested in fostering him, please reach out. Call or email Susan with any questions. 818.636.1522 [email protected]
