🇫🇷HELP!🇫🇷
Paris needs a new foster - for no fault of her own. Her current household has some changes coming and they can’t keep her after the end of the month. 😔

She needs a foster - or better yet, an adoptive home - to go to. Please, please consider. We are a foster-based rescue which means there is nowhere for a dog to go when there are no foster homes willing to take a dog in. What does that equate to for the dog? Well, each case is different. But what it equates to for the volunteers who care about her is stress. 😩😩😩 That we know for sure.

Paris is a very cool little dog. She does well with kids. She is fully trained. She is about 7 years old and 24 lbs. She sleeps in a crate and has no resource guarding issues. She loves fetch and does well with 2 walks a day and 5-10 mins of fetch in the yard. She loves food puzzles - she’s smart. She can be left alone in the house and is fully potty trained. She is also an angel in the crate if you need quiet time. She may bark if there’s something loud outside and can still be reactive on leash to other dogs, but is correctable. She has lived with a cat. She would prefer to have your undivided canine attention but if you have another dog she will likely be fine if it’s one that doesn’t care to be in charge, males especially. (A dominant female wouldn’t work.) Her bio can be found at tarashouse.org.

She is our longest resident, having come to Tara’s House in late Dec. 🤯 She deserves a home, and has had a couple of applications fall through - again for no fault of her own. Please help, by adopting, fostering or sharing her story.

MEET GRETA! (Descriptor: Golden Girl)

What’s to say about this 11 month old Golden Retriever who is the friendliest, sweetest, loving, and playful puppy you’d ever care to meet? Well, just that. She is about the cutest thing ever, and now that she’s gained some weight and recovered from her spay surgery she is ready to find her family.

Greta is in foster care with other dogs, cats and kids. Shocking to no one, she is amazing with all of them. She is dog friendly, but will take a cue from a dog that just doesn’t feel like playing at the moment and not get her feelings hurt. She plays with toys to entertain herself and will leave the cat alone to do cat things.

Greta is great with people, but she especially LOVES kids (respectable ones over the tea-cup size please). She is gentle, likes to snuggle, and will roll over for belly rubs. She doesn't know where her body is in relation to others and wants to hug when possible, but she is super smart and trainable so if there are small kids in the home the adults would need to be ok with training. Speaking of training…almost impossibly, she has already learned to use the bell to tell her foster family that she would like to use the potty outside, please! Such a good young lass. Her only detectable flaw, if you can even call it that, is that when she takes a drink so does the floor. Ha.

They’re Ready! 👩‍💻👨‍💻

The dynamic duo of JIGGY & JOE is ready to receive adoption applications.

What’s better than a friendly little Yorkie? TWO friendly little Yorkies, of course! These fellas have been with each other through thick and thin. They’re 6 years old and are grateful to have been kept together in the second part of their story after their owner passed away, closing the first chapter. Having come to Tara’s House a little disheveled, they've had a spa day (hair, nails, teeth and ear clean-up), have seen the vet (sneezing and ear infection care) and are making a rapid come-back!

Jiggy is the smaller of the two (although both dogs also need to lose weight and are working on it in their glow-up foster phase!) and is the more outgoing of the two. Joe is a little, we’ll say “rounder”, and is gentle and curious. But both boys love to love, and are friendly with everyone they meet, including other dogs. Their happy little nubbin tail wags are just about the cutest thing ever. They were incredibly tolerant of every poke and prod they got, both at the grooming salon and the veterinarian’s office, showing their gentle temperaments and sweet personalities.

It’s still early days, having only been with us for less than two weeks, but the boys are ready to start taking applications - that is if potential adopters understand that they are still taking medications (including ear drops) and will need a follow-up vet appointment to get the all-clear from their infections. They are happy little dudes, that must be adopted together. They will love and be the best little companions who love to go for walkies and then cuddle by your side.

Our final 🔦Spotlight🔦 on our adoptable dogs is on Ms. Paris 🇫🇷

Subtitle: Spirted Little Playmate! 🐕

Paris recently graduated a professional board and train program with Ridgeside K9 Central MD and is an absolute fabulous little dog. Spirited and playful, Paris just loves life! She is a fun sidekick who enjoys fetch more than anything else - except cuddling up next to you when playtime is over. She will play, play, PLAY for as long as is cool with you, and then will settle when asked.

Now fully trained (how AMAZING is that!?!), Paris is back in foster awaiting her furever family. She is a happy girl with a zest for life. Her foster mom and trainers all report that she is wonderful.

There are no other dogs in her foster home, but Paris has lived with a senior cat previously and was fine with it. While in training, Paris saw lots of dogs of different sizes and showed a normal curiosity towards them. We think she would adjust fine to another friendly dog, but can also be an only dog.

Paris is thought to be a Jack Russell Terrier-Corgi mix, and is approximately 6 years old and weighs about 23lbs. She would be good with kids - especially ones that like to play fetch with a dog - and make a fun family dog!

She is very wiggly, likes to be right next to you or sleeping on your pillow, very food motivated.

She likes exploring outside, and taking long walks and hikes.

She is very tolerant of being picked up, dressed up, placed in doll beds, etc. She also allows the kittens to play with her tail, and will happily tussle carefully with them.

She still pulls on a leash at this point, but she’s only 12 lbs so it’s not hard to handle. She loves to run after squirrels, and will come back when called, but doesn't know the street is a boundary.

She does bark loudly when someone comes in the door, but her barking has been lessening with proper guidance.

No signs of aggression or any types of resource guarding.

Mostly housetrained

🔦Spotlight on 🪼Jellyfish🪼🔦

It hasn’t been very long since she’s arrived, but she is worth of another mention. And of course, we had to give a preview of her Halloween costume photo!

From her bio:
She is gorgeous. She is polite. She is dogs-of-all-sizes-friendly and loves her people hard. This young lady is blossoming under our very eyes. This knock out is quickly becoming part of the family unit and is making herself a part of the three-dog pack. She runs, plays, takes structured walks with, and relaxes with the resident and visiting dogs. We can’t be happier for how life is turning out for her!

Jellyfish is a natural beauty with a long tail and the most soulful eyes. She is slowly gaining the weight she should and is now about 70 lbs and approximately 1 year old. Housebroken and non-destructive, she has earned supervised access to her foster home and her foster brothers are teaching her two extremely important household skills: Relaxation and neighborhood watch. If Foster Mom is around, however, she would prefer to abandon her post and sit nearby.

Miss Jelly has had some outings and not only did great in the car (mostly looks out the window) but was wonderful meeting new people and was sweet with all of the new humans she met. She has met kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 while on leash and happily accepted pets from all adults (men and women alike). Due to her large size (she is also still growing) we think it would be best to go to a home with children over the age of 10 so she doesn’t accidentally knock anyone over. (She has a VERY enthusiastic greeting that Foster Mom is working on tampering down a bit.)

🙏FOSTER NEEDED🙏

For CARA…. a 1.5 year old, 12lb chi-dachshund-chow sweetie that we would really love to make a Tara’s House dog. 💞

Her previous owner could not afford vet care and surrendered her to a clinic. Her current caregiver’s notes follow:

“Top qualities: sleeps soundly. loves to play fetch.

“Ideal home: kids who want to play fetch with her every day, and take her on long hikes. She likes attention. She plays very well with large and small dogs, and cats.

“What should an adopter know: has developed anxiety, her barks are very loud and high pitched, she has a high prey drive

“Describe the dog: She is very wiggly, likes to be right next to you or sleeping on your pillow, very food motivated - she's in the kitchen waiting for scraps to fall or be offered. She likes exploring outside, and taking long walks and hikes. She barks a lot, and loudly. She is very emotional when we come home - wiggling, and wants attention. She is very tolerant of being picked up, dressed up, placed in doll beds, etc. She allows the kittens to play with her tail, and will happily tussle carefully with them. **Cara is currently living with other dogs, cats and young children.**

“The dogs play together, follow each other's lead. She doesn't like another animal on the pillow she has chosen for sleeping. I have never seen fighting, biting, or growling.

“She either ignores the cats or gently sniffs, offers to play. They don't sleep together per se, but sometimes one cat will come over trying to play with her tail and may lay down next to her. I have not see any chasing of cats.

“The kids are 8-10. She loves them like her own family and is very comfortable, never scared of kids, nor their friends. She does bark very loudly when someone comes in the door. No signs of aggression. She likes to play with the kids, chasing, fetching, tug of war. She doesn't mind snuggling, but wont stay with them in bed. Never growled. Doesn't guard food or toys

“She readily goes into the crate on her own to sleep, and is excited to go in at meal times, but barks when she is done and whines until she is let out, even if we are right next to the crate.”

Settling-In Pupdate for Sir Winston! 🧸

Having very likely not ever been told “No”, let alone been given any training, this adorable little guy had a problem. His looks would get him adopted. His behavior would get him returned. Rinse and repeat X3.

But luckily, his foster family knows a thing about training and they are generously working with him on his (let’s just say… “several”) areas of improvement needed. 🤓

Below is a snap-shot summary of what they’ve seen over the past few days and how Sir Winston 👑 is settling-in. Spoiler alert: He’s cute AND his behavior is improving. So we have high hopes he will live up to his regal moniker and not get re-dubbed Wookie. 😁

Day 1
The night went well! He’s very reactive in his kennel so he slept with my and my 5 year old in my bed. Slept like a champ and he woke us up at 730 to p*e. He hasn’t had any accident in the house!

Dogs walking by: extremely reactive and will need significant work in this area.

Jumping: I can see how they’d note this as an issue but we’ve had him on a slip leash almost entirely and that seems to help.

Escaping: his body is deceivingly moldable! I just watched him squeeze through our porch railing 😂

Nipping: he’ll put his teeth on you if he’s mad he can’t bark at something and you try and comfort him.

Reactivity: His reactivity to one of our cats has mellowed by maybe 5% of what it was when he got here yesterday so we’re hopeful he just needs a transition period.

Cuddling: very cuddly when he’s not mad. Slept extremely well at the foot of the bed.

Day 2
Reactivity: he’s reactive to dogs walking by until they’re almost out of sight. He’s fine with seeing my neighbors’ dogs because they’ve been able to sniff each other so I think it’s an excitement/anxious thing instead of aggression. Overnight he was barking at loud cars outside. Once I turned off the lights, he just went to sleep. He’s kind of like a child haha

He’s NOT decent with all cats! But there’s potential for him to cohabitate with one. When he first met her, he barked nonstop. Now she can enter and exit a room without him having a meltdown

Chewing: he loves toys! He’ll make anything a toy so having proper dog toys is going to be helpful for him.

Leash pulling: we did a ton of loops with little slack and he’s getting the hang of it. He still gets excited and wants to pull harder but I was able to get him to make eye contact with me at least 5 times yesterday evening. Progress for sure.

Nipping: he will nip fingers if kids are running and he thinks it’s play time. Not an aggressive nip, it’s how he’s playing. We’re working on it.

The art of chill: this is where I see the most progress. Having him on the slip lead almost the entire time in the house is helping him a ton. He’s learning he needs to simmer and lay down with minimal to no pulling.

Kenneling: he was in the kennel on and off yesterday with significantly less barking than the day before.

Hu***ng: we saw no hu***ng yesterday! Saturday was excessive.

Cuddling: super cuddly! Yesterday he’d bury his face into our arms and start licking. It was like his way of saying thank you. Super sweet.

Day 3
He slept well and had zero accidents overnight. I think yesterday was a fluke.

Reactivity: we worked on his cue word “here” for a good bit yesterday. He does well in controlled environments but his reactivity will likely have to be consistently reinforced long term.

Cats: he was able to maintain his cool around our 18lb cat for 50% of their interactions last night! Before that, he’d lose his marbles. We addressed it by putting treats in front of him every time he looked in the cat’s direction before he barked.

Snuggling: he snuggled my husband last night and looked exactly like a build-a-bear when I opened the door. He had been in that position for about 20 mins.

He’s pretty good at squeezing through railings. I thought for sure his head was too big…..it’s not 😊

The art of calm: every day he settles a little more!
